Gonski 2.0 Review
The Gonski 2.0 review has put the education debate into the media. Education today has made a huge shift, particularly in the last twenty years or so. The nature of schools and learning has had some major changes with the needs of students and the work force becoming more complex. Although literacy and numeracy are still fundamental key skills, the access we now have to knowledge and how it is obtained, used and re-imagined has shifted enormously. The teacher’s role has become more complex with learning focussing on creating understanding. All this is to prepare young people for a globalised world requiring skills such as collaboration, creativity, problem solving, critical thinking and an understanding of self and others.
20 Year Celebration
As we celebrate 20 years of providing education in the north, we will celebrate this next week with special Assemblies for students. 15 May was the first day of classes on the Aitken College site, after commencing the year at Avondale Heights. Please see early photos of the school.
Mothers Day Breakfast & Stall
The Parents and Friends ran their Mothers Day breakfast and stall on Thursday 10 May. Thank you to all the parents who volunteered their time and also the Aitken College Hospitality students who helped out; provided tea, coffee and hot chocolate. They would like to thank the Parents and Friends Association for the donation of aprons. We wish all Mothers and Grandmothers a Happy Mothers Day.
