MUSIC NEWS

WELCOME

Welcome to another incredibly busy fortnight this week in the Music Department.

 

We welcome Imogen Manins to the school, who will be replacing Ms Christine Vincent until the end of term.  Ms Manins will be at the school on Wednesdays.  Students are advised to check their schedules carefully.

MUSIC EVENTS – CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL WHO PERFORMED

Congratulations to the many students who took part in the South Eastern Region Victoria Singfest on 22 April at Cheltenham Secondary College.  The students gained a great deal of insight into successful singing with their guest clinician Mark O’Leary, one of Australia’s preeminent vocal educators.  Thank you Ms Blanka West and Ms Rose Kavanagh for their supervision of the students for the day.

 

We are very proud of Daniel Shaw who played the Last Post at Ormond AusKick on ANZAC day. 

 

Congratulations to the school Orchestra who performed at the A Sprengisandi, an Icelandic folk song, at the General Assembly on 30 April.  It was a very beautiful performance. We also thank them and David Yarrow for their fantastic rendition of the National Anthem.  Special congratulations to the Misha Machlak who performed at the General Assembly.  He performed Summertime and A Woman is a Sometimes Thing to a hushed and appreciative audience.  Fantastic work!

 

The Senior Stage Band performed at the Generations in Jazz, Jazz Festival in Mount Gambier over the weekend 1 May – 3 May.  Congratulations on performing in front of such a great crowd and representing the school well.  The students had an amazing time and were inspired by performances from outstanding schools and International artists.  It will serve as an impetus for future improvements.  Thanks to Mr Dmitry Serebrianik and Ms Su Rogerson for their organisation and supervision of this great event.

BATTLE OF THE BANDS WINNERS FOR 2015

Congratulations to the Sons of Daniel who won the South Eastern Region Victoria Battle of the Bands competition for 2015.

Playing three original compositions, the boys won the award for the Best Original and the overall Award for the Best Band.  We are extremely proud of them and their fantastic musical ability.  We wish them well for their ongoing success, especially at the State Finals in August.

VCE VOICE MASTERCLASS

Emily Holding and King Chen both participated in the Masterclass Sessions for VCE Voice students at Wesley College on Sunday 3 May held by the Victorian Chapter of the Australian National Association of Teachers of Singing (ANATS).  The students who participated gained great insights into success as performers.

MUNCH THEN MUSIC

Munch then Music began its student focused concert series on Friday 1 May.  Congratulations to James HardyGuy ToledanoYael ZamirNalin LeeDaniel LeddaJack RyanPaulina Vayenas and William Hardy for their outstanding performances. Thank you to the fantastic emcees for the day Paulina Vayenas and Matthew James and to the amazing sound and lighting crew, led by Mr Nick Xanthoudakis. OPEN NIGHT

Open Night (5 May) saw many students proudly representing the school from the Senior Stage Band, the String Quartet and the VCE students rehearsing to the Year 8 and 9 students working on projects in the computer lab.  Thank you for your assistance in making the school shine.

AMEB PRACTICAL EXAMS/VCE MUSIC PERFORMANCE SACs

Session 1 of the AMEB practical exams are on this week, and we wish the students partaking the best for these.

 

We also wish all the VCE Music Performance students the best as their technical and practical SACs begin this week.
