Media Studies

Students of St. Joe’s Media took the opportunity to donate $102 to the Cancer Council recently. The funds were raised from our recent Media Project Premiere Night held at the Echuca Paramount. Students of all three current Media classes should be commended for their willingness to donate funds to such a worthy cause.

GeoLocal Excursions

Year 8 students went to Echuca's Waste Sorting facility (VEOLIA) and learnt about what goes in the yellow bin, and why cleaning rubbish before it goes in the yellow bin is important. They noted that things that go in the bin were called product, how much money can be earnt by sorting and reselling, and why people working in the facility value their workplace. The excursion complements what students have been learning about sustainable communities. In this unit they will be making suggestions of what our community should ideally look like in 2050.

Year 8 GeoLocal classes took a walk around the local community this week looking at change over time: historically, currently and in the future. They contrasted areas of medium and low density, the evolution of building styles and strategies to reduce carbon footprints. The class discussed the role of green spaces, maintaining community wellbeing and how Echuca will change within their lifetime given expectations that rural cities like Echuca will grow to have populations near 250,000 within their lifetime.
