Living with Strength and Kindliness

This week, Ms Hogan and the St. Joseph’s College Leaders joined other Kildare Education Ministries school to volunteer at Presentation Family Centre in Balnarring.

Volunteering is still a pillar of many smaller communities and yet, as life gets busier, we get less and less inclined to spend time.

Sometimes we simply feel compelled to do it in an adult form of ‘peer pressure’.

I remind myself as I write this that there are two aspects to volunteering for your community. One is to complete the action that the community so desperately requires, and the second is to be able to recognise your value to your community and give accordingly of your talents and abilities.

This second part – the contemplation of what you have to give is equally of value. It glues us within our communities and shows us our role according to the Holy Spirit.

Just as in the Parable of the Talents in Matthew’s Gospel, to those who look into what they have been given by God and use it, more will be given – presumably fellowship, friendship and a strong community.

We should all take time to contemplate what we have to give.

And then give it.

Well done Year 8 Leaders and Ms. Hogan for leading the way!
