Sports Report

Basketball

Last week we sent three teams to Bendigo to represent St. Joseph’s at the Loddon Mallee Regionals for basketball.

Our Year 8 boys were up against some tough competition. They managed to win two out of their four games, with the two losses being under 10pts.

The Year 8 girls won three out of their four games, going down by only three pts in their loss to Mildura thus giving them runners up for the day. A great effort!

The stars of the day were the Year 7 girls.   Coached by Belle Johnson, they played two hard games and won both of these, thanks to Lexi Gregor’s three pointers and Holly Chadwick’s impressive defence. The girls are heading to State on the 19th of November where they will compete against metro teams. It will be a tough day but they are all excited to get down there and give it their best shot!

Good luck girls!

Cricket

LMR Year 7 and 8 Girls

On Monday, two pretty pumped up teams of girls (Years 7 and 8) hopped on a bus to go to Strathfieldsaye and take on Bendigo South East and Maryborough in cricket. On the line was the Loddon Mallee Regional Pennant. First to play were the Year 7 team who took to the field against Bendigo. They took seven wickets in the 16 overs bowled and headed in to bat with confidence. Bendigo were equal to the task though, and the match turned out to be a nail-biter with our girls coming out on top by one run from the last ball.

The Year 8 girls had two matches to play. They completely dominated Maryborough, scoring enough runs to win within the first two overs and conceding very few wickets. The Bendigo team was tougher, but not tough enough, with our girls winning their final match 79 to 58 to take the second pennant for the day. All of the girls put on a great show and even had the male students from Bendigo (who were scoring with us) calling ‘shot!’ when our girls hit some serious 4’s. It was a great day (apart from the endless swarms of bees out on the field) and both teams are now off to Melbourne in November to play at the State level.

  Good luck to both teams!

State Athletics

Friday 18th October saw seven of our students head to Melbourne for the State Athletics.

They all had an amazing campaign leading up to the State titles and did our college very proud in their achievements on the day.

Congratulations to each of them.

Special mention to Beau Ogden who is now the State title holder of the 16yo Boys Shot-Put.  Beau threw 13.99m which gave him 36cm ahead of the second placegetter.  Awesome effort Beau!
