Staff vs Student Volleyball Game

With all physical activities taking place outside now due to COVID-19 restrictions we were still able to hold a final Staff vs Year 12 Volleyball game for the Sports Leaders and anybody else who wanted to participate.

There was quite a large Year 12 cheer squad and they had a strong team! The staff came out in force across numerous domains. We were very lucky to have some tall staff in Mr Wogan, Mr Smith and Miss Smith.

The Year 12 students got off to a flying start with a 6-0 scoreline which had the staff a bit nervous. The staff then went on to win the first set quite convincingly. We swapped ends and with the wind to the students advantage they managed to take the second set. Into the third set and the staff were too strong annihilating the students 21- 6!

A great fun game to finish the “Sport @ Kilbreda” for our Year 12 students.

We thank the students who have participated in the numerous sports across their six years at Kilbreda. Many have participated in both SCSA and SEGAP sports every year. We thank you for trying new sports and encouraging your friends to get involved in sport at the College. We thank you for your leadership and commitment. We hope you have great memories of participating in these teams and perhaps even achieving success.

Catherine Arlove Award

Catherine Arlove is a Victorian Triple Olympian who completed her studies at the College in 1988.

She represented Australia in wrestling.  Catherine first competed in the middleweight division at the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games.  She improved on her 13th place when she competed in the same division at Athens in 2004, placing fifth.  Catherine entered the half-middleweight division at Beijing, exiting in the preliminary round. Catherine has won ten gold medals at the Australian Judo Championships. Additionally, Catherine competed at a national level in cycling. Competing in three successive Olympics Games requires significant dedication and sacrifice.

The Catherine Arlove Award is presented to a Year 12 student who represented the College in the greatest number of sporting activities over her time at the College, commencing in 2015, when the class of 2020 began their Kilbreda Journey.

The Catherine Arlove Award recipient has demonstrated a passion for sport and was always willing to try out new sports and offer assistance wherever she could to her peers.

The award winner represented the College in a total of 36 different teams over her 6 years at the College.

The Catherine Arlove Award recipient for 2020 is Llelarni Mitchell.  Congratulations, Llelarni!

2020 House Leaders

We would like to thank the 2020 House Leaders

  • Kate Ebert and Llelarni Mitchell - Delany
  • Mia Clohesy and Polly McCartney - Kildare
  • Jazmine Lao and Mia Gray - Tullow
  • Liana Tyrell and Alysa Mulcahy - Brigid

We managed to complete the House Swimming Sports in Term 1 which was a fantastic day. You created a wonderful atmosphere from the start with your team “entrance songs” and energy. The participation on this day was fantastic!

Unfortunately, due to COVID-19, we were unable to have our Athletics Day but you encouraged your teams with some virtual activities to continue the House Spirit.

We thank you for your commitment and encouragement of your House throughout 2020.

We wish you all the very best for 2021 and the future.

Duke of Edinburgh Award  Update

As with most things this year our Duke of Edinburgh Award has also been affected by COVID-19. At this stage all schools in the Metropolitan area are unable to participate in any camps or excursions and therefore the Qualifying Journey, which normally takes place at Wilsons Promontory, will not take place this year.

We have had confirmation from the Duke of Edinburgh office, that this year, the Practice Journey will be accepted as the Qualifying Journey. This means that we do not need to try to find time next year to squeeze in their Qualifying Journey.

We will have a meeting with the current Year 9 Duke of Edinburgh Award students in the coming weeks to assist them in completing the Preparation, Training and Qualifying Journey observations.

We understand that it may have been difficult for students to complete some of their other components due to COVID-19. Participants have until they are 25 years of age to complete the Award and we encourage those who have found it challenging with the restrictions to finish the Award as soon as they can.

If you have any questions about the Duke of Edinburgh Award then please feel free to contact us at joanne.wood@kilbreda.vic.edu.au or maree.clark@kilbreda.vic.edu.au
