ASSISTANT PRINCIPALS’ REPORT

Paul Dawson, Bradley Headlam &  Julie Andrews

Assistant Principals

Welcome back to all students. It was a pleasure to see and hear the students around the yard on Monday and seeing them learning face-to-face in the classrooms.

For most students and teachers there is a huge sigh of relief that we can all be back onsite. Although remote learning has been a challenge, we are so impressed by the dedication and achievements that students have made. Staying connected to the school during this time was key to their success and to the smooth transition back to onsite learning.

For the Year 12 students it is especially important that they settle into their studies effectively as the VCE exams are only a few weeks away and the VCAL students are preparing for their exit interviews.

For all other students the focus should be on the learning that can be achieved in the remainder of the year, whilst having a balanced approach to managing health and wellbeing.

Student Managers are ready to listen and support students to access the support they need. The Student Wellbeing Team are available and already working with a number of students.

FINAL WEEKS FOR YEAR 12 GRADUATION AND EXAMS

With only two weeks to go, the Year 12 students are now reflecting on their thirteen years of schooling, with the last being their most memorable, but not for the most positive reasons.  We could not be prouder of their resilience and know that their experiences and responses will prepare them for the challenges that they will confront in their coming years.

We have booked “The Pier” for Tuesday, 1 December, for Graduation for the Year 12 students and are hopeful that they will be able to celebrate their schooling in style.  We all know they deserve this and are keeping our fingers crossed.  We are also hopeful that it will also be an opportunity for the parents to share in this celebration as they have had to provide invaluable support throughout this period.

2021 Year 11 AND 12 BOOKLISTS

All current Year 10 and 11 students have received their booklists this week. Year 11 and 12 students, across the state, are required to have their booklists submitted online by Friday, 30 October. All instructions are on the booklists.

We are distributing the Year 11 and 12 booklists now so that students can have them for their respective Orientation weeks. Students will be utilising these resources in their Orientation classes.

I cannot emphasise more, the importance of returning these booklists by this due date.

Students can start their Year 11 and 12 schooling with confidence, that they will be

prepared and ready to learn.

Year 10 Immunisations

The Meningococcal Immunisations are scheduled for Tuesday, 20 October, starting Period One. Students are permitted to wear their PE uniform on the day as it makes the process of immunisation easier for both the child and the nurse.

If your child is not able to have their immunisation on this day there are various times that can be booked at Barwon Health Centres (see flyer) or the immunisation can be provided by your GP.

Uniform

In Term 4, the weather is variable from one day to the next and even within the day. Please ensure that your child has the correct uniform to wear and that replacement items are purchased to replace worn out or ill-fitting items. This includes shoes.

If eligible, the Student Wellbeing Team can provide support with uniforms.

The school expects that students continue to wear the full school uniform until the end of the school year.

Families are reminded of the NGSC Uniform Policy that describes expectations for hair, nails and makeup.  The policy can be found on the NGSC website, https://ngsc.vic.edu.au/downloads/

Other Policies

A number of school policies have been reviewed or refreshed. These can be found on the NGSC website.

Progress Reports

Our Progress Reports will be inclusive of all NGSC work habit categories once again, now that we are back onsite. This includes the following areas of assessment:

  1. Achievement - progressing towards outcome/standard
  2. Attendance - meets NGSC requirement (80% or better for attendance)
  3. Homework
  4. Participates positively in learning activities
  5. Preparation/Organisation - required materials
  6. Respect to peers and staff.

Each teacher rates the students performance with a numerical value 0-4 scale and the average score is observed by Sub School teams to identify any students in need of improvement or support. We believe a fair average to achieve at this time of the year is a 3.0 and obviously this is best supported by aiming for 100% attendance. The reports will be shared via Compass in two weeks.
