Virtual excursions - students' experiences

CASE Space Camp holiday program

During the holidays I participated in the online CASE Space Camp, it was really enjoyable and I learnt a lot about space and human influence there - especially on Mars. It was really fascinating to see the engineering behind the Mars rover 'Curiosity' and the new 'Perseverance' rover, as well as the new 'Ingenuity' helicopter.

I also liked being able to do hands-on activities with materials found around the house; it made the program more fun and exciting. My favourite activity was making our own Mars rovers, because it was a pleasant way to learn the basics of how a rover works. I think participating in the program really broadened my horizons about space and Mars and at the end of the program I knew so much more.

Go Girl - Go for IT  - Virtual Excursion

Several MGSC students attended this virtual excursion on Tuesday 13 October. Below is a reflection prepared by Louise Thomas.

The GoGirl Virtual Excursion was really interesting and opened my mind to new career paths I hadn't thought of before. They had multiple guest speakers talk to us through Zoom about their jobs in the field of IT who talked about what it is like to work in the area, and that it is not just about sitting at a computer all day programming. I learned that skills in problem solving, technology and teamwork are all used in the field, and I also learned how exciting it can be. There was a virtual career expo where you could explore different companies and the roles offered in them. All in all, it was an eye-opening and interesting experience and I learned a lot about the careers in IT.
