Dear Families and College Community
Staff and students have been extremely busy in the last couple of weeks with hay and silage making. It is very pleasing to see students involved and enjoying the process of mowing, tedding, raking, baling and wrapping. Around the district tractors are operating all hours at this busy time. Whilst there appears to be plenty of feed at the moment, we are anticipating a reduction in irrigation allowance this coming season.
As a result, the Farm staff and the Agricultural Advisory have been considering different scenarios about how to cope with a reduced capacity to grow pasture. They have developed some short and long term plans, the latter of which is likely to involve the introduction of maize or similar forage crop, grown and processed into silage. Such crops have the capacity to at least double the production from the same quantity of water and would provide another valuable learning opportunity for students.
Moving into 2021
As we approach the end of the year we are making plans for 2021 and this includes managing enrolments of new students.
Typically we have a small number of Year 11 students who gain apprenticeships and don’t return for Year 12. If this is likely to be the case for your son or daughter, could you please communicate with us, so we can factor this into our thinking for next year.
Awards and Year 12 Graduation Ceremony
As per the invitations already sent to the Year 12s, each Year 12 student can bring four guests to the Awards and Year 12 Graduation Ceremony. If you have not yet sent your RSVP please do so by the 9th November as it is really important for us to be clear about who is attending due to COVID restrictions.
Seats will be allocated on the basis of the RSVP’s and anyone who arrives without an allocated seat will not be permitted to attend the ceremony. We are aiming to live stream and record the ceremony for those family and friends unable to attend.
Have a great weekend.
