Advent

We are now entering into the season of Advent. This year the first Sunday of Advent falls on Sunday 29th November.  In the Catholic Church, Advent is a period of preparation extending over the four Sundays before Christmas. The word Advent comes from the Latin advenio, "to come to," and refers to the coming of Christ. Perhaps the best known symbol of Advent is the Advent wreath, an evergreen circle with four coloured candles, three purple and one pink. The candles represent the four Sundays of Advent, which occur before the 25th of December. During Advent we prepare our hearts in hope, love, joy and peace as we await the celebration of the birth of Jesus. Over the next four weeks we will celebrate Prayer Gatherings as a community, these will be shared on the community portal each week. You are invited to watch the videos each week, you might like to light your own Advent wreath candle as you watch and reflect.

Annual Christmas collection in aid of Way of the West

St John's has a proud tradition of supporting Way of the West each year. Once again we invite families to donate food and gifts for those in need this Christmas. Our collection begins from today and we will be accepting donations up until Friday 10th December. Gifts suitable for any age range would be most appreciated, along with non-perishable food items and Christmas treats. Donations can be sent to school with your child and we will ensure that they are sent to those most in need. Thank you, as always, for your generous support.

Confirmation Reflection morning

We will be reflecting on the Sacrament of Confirmation with our children who are preparing to celebrate Confirmation next week. We pray for Frederick, Paul, Lam, Christian, Ryan and their families as they gather together to celebrate.

Year 6 Transition Day

This week our Year 6 children will be exploring transition. Workshops around friendships, organisation, home-work, bullying and new environments will be occurring. We thank, Ashlee, Michele,  Ceci Tankey and Jacqui from CCCC - for supporting and leading this special day.

Year 5 Leadership day

Year 5 children and educators will be having a day to explore leadership, leaders and developing a sense of their own leadership. The day will involve many thinking and reflection tools to go deeper into leadership. It is anticipated by the end of the day, children will decide if they show interest in school leadership positions for 2021. This includes school captains.  Year 5 children will share lunch (provided) together at the farm to reflect on our St John's context and what is needed going forwards.
