Lent
Formation
Gospel Mk 1:12-15
After forty days in the desert, Jesus proclaims the reign of God.
A beginning point for discussion of this week's Gospel with children:
In today’s gospel where did Jesus go for 40 days to pray?
Who tried to tempt or test Jesus?
What did Jesus say to the people of Galilee after he left the wilderness?
These 40 days of Lent are a time when we turn back to God and ask for forgiveness.
In Lent we spend time in prayer and do good works.
How can we do this during the coming weeks?
Catholic Culture
Congratulations once again to all the children who presented themselves for the Rite of Acceptance Sacraments of Reconciliation, at Mass last weekend. By participating in the program, they are continuing the journey that you as parents already chose for them. They are then able to fully participate in the sacramental life of the Church and the celebrations we have as a school. We nurture, plan and prepare our children for many things and their spiritual life should be part of this as well. Our first Sacramental meeting for Reconciliation will be on the 28th February at 7.00pm in the Brigidine Centre.
Social Justice
Pope Francis constantly emphasises a connection between self-denial and charitable outreach. Lent rescues us from ourselves and frees us to think about others – particularly those who suffer from poverty. New parents to our school community may not be aware that a large part of our mission is to support the less fortunate in our community and the world at large. This support comes in many ways; service, money and donations. We support through social justice The Diocesan Works Fund, Catholic Mission, Caritas Australia and St Vincent DePaul to name a few. The children will bring home this week their Lenten collection coin boxes as part of our fundraising efforts for Caritas/Project Compassion 2018.
Have a peaceful week.
