Term 2 Specialist Program

This term we have a focus on Sustainability and Community. The specialist team will be working towards creating a TV show where students will demonstrate their learning throughout the term. We will be requiring students to play the roles of news anchors, reporters, film recorders, producers and editors. Towards the end of the term there will be a performance where a live studio audience will be invited to see how it all comes together. 

Students will also be creating a 3D Sustainable city. We will be teaching concepts within the Sustainability theme and then students will demonstrate their learning by designing and building a part of the city that it relates to. 

Some of these concepts are listed subject by subject below:

CHINESE (Mandarin)

Prep:

       1.     Engage in learning body parts and perform ‘head, shoulders, knees & toes’ song in Mandarin

       2.     Understand how pinyin and tones work through learning about colours

 

Grade 1:

        1.     Understand how pinyin and tones work through learning about colours

        2.     Respond to and interact with routines in simple Mandarin phrases

 

Grade 2/3

        1.     Understand the system of the Chinese language and how pinyin and tones work through learning about colours and feelings

        2.     Perform a presentation about ‘my classmates’ through conducting a survey with short phrases in Mandarin

 

Grade 4/5/6

        1.     Participate in role play and creating everyday conversation in Mandarin by  given situations

        2.     Create own bilingual texts (pinyin and Chinese characters) through designing a 3D sustainable China Town

CODING & ROBOTICS

Prep     

We are learning to work as a team, understand the steps needed to achieve a task and using equipment safely.

 

Grade 1

We are learning to work as a team, breaking down a task to smaller steps and using equipment safely.

 

Grade 2

We are learning about how to follow a sequence of steps and descriptions needed to solve a simple coding task. We are also learning the meaning of debugging a code.

 

Grade 3

We are learning about how to follow a sequence of steps and descriptions needed to solve a simple coding task. We are also learning the meaning of debugging a code.

 

Grade 456           

We are learning about The Building Blocks of Coding Languages, following simple algorithms and creating iterations and selections within the code.

MUSIC

Prep

  • Rhythms on bucket drums.

Grade 1

  • Popular rock songs on bucket drums.

Grade 2

  • Playing popular songs with modified chords on the guitar.
  • Rhythms and songs on the bucket drums.

  • Singing and dancing with steps in a sequence.

Grade 3

  • Playing popular songs on the guitar with modified chords and various strumming patterns.
  • Small group bucket drumming with a focus of playing together as an ensemble.
  • Applying skills and techniques covered to compose original pieces of music.
  • Analysing pieces of music in class discussions.
  • Examining how music can contribute to environmental sustainability.

Grade 4/5/6

  • Playing guitar in small groups. Learning a range of chords, strumming patterns and songs.
  • Learning modified drum parts to popular songs on bucket drums.
  • Creating original pieces of music focusing on using imagination and expression.
  • Developing arts specific language.
  • Examining how music can contribute to environmental sustainability.
