Crossing Instructions

For those utilising the crossing on Queen Elizabeth Avenue, please note the following instructions that have been given to us for all users.

The operational rules are as follows:

 On approaching the cross walk persons riding a bicycle is to dismount prior to crossing – all

bicycles are to be walked across the cross walk to avoid accidents

 Persons are to wait until the Traffic Warden has entered the middle of the road, ensures

that all traffic has stopped

 When all is safe, Traffic Warden gives two (2) short blasts of their whistle indicating to

people that it is safe to cross

 The Traffic Warden does not exit the road until all persons have safely crossed

 A long blast of the whistle indicates an emergency and all persons are to stop walking

 Keep in mind, that although the Traffic Warden is out in the middle of the road with flags

held high, some traffic still will not stop – this is why it is important for the persons crossing

to wait for the whistle to be blown

Students and adults who do not wish to follow the rules may cross the road at an alternative

distance (further than 20 metres) from the crossing at their own risk.

Thanks for your help in keeping our students safe!
