Mentors in the Making

As a College, we have access to some remarkable people who step in and contribute meaningfully to the personal development of our students.

Just over a week ago, Mr Steve Bailey, who is the National Director of Christian Surfers, presented a training session to about 40 high school students about mentoring others.

This is part of a general program to develop our student leaders and equip them to be of service to others. Steve really made an impression and was able to share some really valuable ideas.

Thanks for visiting us Steve!

What comes first.....

There's no more energetic combination than small children and animals - and our legendary Year 1 teacher has mastery of both.

With each of the students recently adopting a fertilised chicken's egg, progress was checked recently on whether the Year 1 class are to be the proud parents of a clutch of golden chicks or not. There's some great signs that there will be some fluffy additions to their numbers soon.

The eggs were looked at under light, and indicators of a pending hatch (such a veins and air bubbles) were considered by the students. There's a great deal of excitement for everyone concerned.

We look forward to introducing you to our new family members next edition!

Well done Mrs Kuendig.

Sculptures by the Bay

Sculptures by the Bay is a temporary art installation on the Dunsborough foreshore.  There's a little bit of Cornerstone nestled in amongst the trees.

Dunsborough's Year 4 to Year 6 students made their mark, as well as this year's Year 7 students.

Thanks Mrs Posa for overseeing their display.

Well done, everyone!

Lunchtimes in the Library

Our library is full of books, but other activities also unfold.

Mrs Mapstone creates an environment that encourages reading, but also other learning ideas. For instance here's a few students doing mind challenges in the library at lunch time, which are always popular.

Forensic Activity

When the police are in class undertaking forensic testing, one might be alarmed - but not in this case. Senior Constable Curtis Armstrong visited Mr Cameron's science class recently to introduce a Forensics unit of study.  Students got to hear about the real world of policing as opposed to the whizz bang representations found on television. The class learned that fingerprinting is still a major part of carrying out an investigation. Senior Constable Armstrong brought along his fingerprint kit and gave a demonstration.

Watch this space. There might be a fun story about to unfold and the solving of a crime with what they've learnt.

Thanks Curtis for visiting us. We are so grateful you came.

Dance moves

Mr Cameron has been around Cornerstone longer than anyone else. So when you find him in the midst of a group of Year 12 students learning dance moves, you know there will be good reason.

The Senior School Ball was last Friday night and based on this lesson, provided opportunities for more than just modern dance. Mr Cameron loves his ballroom dancing, and so he looked very much at home sharing his knowledge.

Well done, Mr Cam!

Year 6 Parent Assembly

The Year 6 Assembly happened last Thursday, and it was a wonderful display of creative story-telling with a punchy message.

The students shared the story of a dance troupe who just couldn't flourish as a team - and called in a detective to work through how they could perform at their best. The conclusion was that the troupe needed to make a few changes which included - living with love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control; treating each other with honour; having a growth mindset; working hard; and honouring God with the gifts they have.

Well done, students on such a great performance - you were amazing!

Year 12 Ball

It's the social highlight of the year - the Senior Secondary Ball.  Last Friday Night, Abbey Beach Resort was filled with the glamour and glitz of this special evening.  Arrivals were memorable, and the ballroom was decked out in a style befitting the 20s.

Mrs Posa and Miss Blennerhassett have played a pivotal part in the success of the evening, and we want to thank them for their oversight and coordination.

Formal photographs will be released soon, but for now, here's a few images of the arrivals as they happened.

In the Pool

The Primary Swimming Carnival was last Friday.

With near perfect weather, the students were showcasing their swimming skills against one another, all in the name of gathering points for their house to take home the coveted 2020 Swimming Carnival Champions trophy.

A huge turn-out of parents helped make the day festive, and who provided valuable support and assistance that allowed the day to run smoothly. Special mention of the Year 10 students who hopped into the pool to help with the organisation. It's always special to see the primary and secondary students collaborating and supporting each other.

Special thanks to Mr Meyerink, who year after year delivers us with an amazing day of sporting opportunities. His dedication and contribution goes well beyond the bounds of his job, and we want to celebrate him especially.

NB - This wonderful testimonial was provided by a Mum this morning:

'I just wanted to say that the swimming carnival on Friday was such an amazing day. The way the kids all rallied around each other was just such a testament to the school. I had tears in my eyes when everyone was cheering my son on to finish the 50m freestyle. It's days like that are just one more reminder of why we love Cornerstone so much. I can't imagine a more nurturing and safe school for my kids to attend'.
