MacKillop Atheltic Trials

Congratulations to the SJB students who participated at the MacKillop trials on Monday in the Wollongong Diocese team. It was mentioned that our Wollongong athletes were outstanding with many taking home medals on the day.  A special congratulations to Emily and Joshua Benefiel who were selected into the MacKillop team to compete at the NSWPSSA State Championships at Sydney Olympic Park on 6 November and 7 November 2019.

We wish them the very best of luck and congratulate them on their dedication towards training to be so competitive at such a high level.

Gala Days

This week selected children will participate at the Basketball Gala day. We are very fortunate to have parents to volunteer to manage teams. Without you, we would not be able to participate so thank you again to those that have offered to assist.  Please see below important information that has been passed onto schools in regards to our ‘Wollongong Diocese Gala Day Philosophy’.

Primary Gala days – “A non-negotiable philosophy for schools”

As a balance to the representative pathway structures the Diocesan sports council facilitate gala days in netball, football, basketball and cricket. These days are:

• Strictly non-competitive,

• No scores are kept,

• No finals are played and

• No awards are given out

The gala days are designed for students to enjoy the sport, try the sport out, have fun and exercise without the pressure of competition and winning.

Students, teachers, parents and supporters are to treat all games and interactions with others with this in mind. Referees or umpires should be treated with courtesy and respect as most of these are sourced from local catholic secondary schools and we are very lucky to have this support. If we did not have this, schools would need to supply one umpire/referee per team entered.

Students, teachers and parents should maintain a safe and respectful environment for all. They should maintain positive relationships with team officials regarding their child’s wellbeing and behaviour and encourage participation by all children.

Parents should provide a model of good sportsmanship for their child to copy and be courteous and respectful in communication with players, team officials, game officials, other parents and event organisers.

Thank you to our students, staff and parents here at SJB who always do their best to uphold the St Joseph’s name and participate with the above information in mind. If you have any questions or concerns in relation to any of the above please contact myself (Mrs Grose) or Mrs Smith (Sport Co-ordinators) at school.  If you require any assistance at the gala day or have any concerns regarding the behaviour of anyone please make our school team manager aware at the gala day and they will follow this up with the convenor.

Goodluck to all students participating this week!
