Cake Boxes for the Fete

Cake boxes were handed out to all families this week.  We ask that each family make a special sweet or two to donate to the Cake stall at our school fete this Saturday.  Please deliver to the KM classrooms on Friday 20 September after school or the morning of Saturday 21 September 2019.

 

Public Speaking - Years 5 and 6 Only

Public speaking preparation will be take place in classrooms over the next few weeks. The children will work on their speeches in class as part of the English Peaking and Listening syllabus. Speeches will be presented in class Week 8 and 9 of this term. Each class will then select three students to present their speech in the finals for Stage 3 Tuesday 24 September (Week 10, Term 4) in the hall. 

 

Year 5 students are required to speak for 3 to 4 minutes and Year 6 students for 4 to 5 minutes. (See newsfeed on COMPASS)

 

One student from each grade will be chosen to represent St Joseph’s at the South East Primary Cluster held at St Joseph’s Primary School, Bulli on Wednesday 23 October (Week 2  - Term 4)

NRMA Science and Road Safety Demonstrations

On Monday 23 September the NRMA Science and Road Safety Program will be visiting St Joseph’s to provide the students with valuable information around the What, Why and How of Road and Bike Safety.

Students are invited to bring their bike helmets to school on the day, to practise how to fit them correctly.

Parents are most welcome to attend the demonstration, please see the show schedule below:

ACER PAT Tests

Last year the Wollongong Catholic Education Office purchased the ACER PAT Assessment Package for all Primary Diocesan schools. This Package consists of a Reading Test, Mathematics Test and Grammar and Punctuation Test

 

The purpose for administering these tests to students in Yrs 1-6 annually, is to provide schools with another set of data in which to measure student learning growth and identify trend data. No report on student results will be provided for parents.

 

Over the next 3 weeks students in Yrs 1-6 will sit these online tests.

Years 1 and 2: Reading and Mathematics

Year 3 to Year 6: Reading, Mathematics, Grammar and Punctuation

Student Absences

Thank you to all parents who are now using Compass to explain student absences. 

 

Please use COMPASS to advise of WHOLE DAY ABSENCES ONLY.

 

If your child is leaving school to attend an appointment  could you please advise us via email.  Please do not enter PARTIAL absences through COMPASS.

 

ICAS Makeup Days

Please note that if your child was away for any ICAS Tests (Spelling, Reading, Maths or Science) and you had requested them to sit for this assessment, we will endeavour to complete these over the next two days. 

 

All tests must be made up by Friday 20 September.

Wanted..... Empty Shoe Boxes/Lids

Kindergarten need empty shoe boxes and lids for a Science task in Week 10.   If you have any of these items, please send into the school office.
