It is Nearly Fete Day?

Only a few days left until our biggest school community event of 2019. Please see the P&F section of this newsletter for details.

Please return your Fete Raffle Tickets to the school office (sold or unsold). There are more books available at the school office.

Winter is Back!

At this time of year, the weather can be quite unpredictable. Students have begun wearing the school summer uniform. However, when the weather is still cool parents may use their discretion and dress children in the Winter uniform this week and next week.

Please ensure your child is in either the full summer or full winter uniform and not a combination.

Sports jackets are only to be worn with the sports uniform and not with the summer or winter uniform. Students should be wearing the sloppy joe. If it is particularly cold, then the sports jacket may be worn over the sloppy joe.

Thank you for your commitment to high standards for the wearing of uniforms at St Joseph’s.

30 second Survey

National School Chaplaincy Program (NSCP)

St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School Bulli, is interested in participating in the National School Chaplaincy Program 2020 to 2022. Participation in the program requires a substantial application to be completed by the school. The application requires consultation about the level of interest from the school community.

I would be appreciated if parents and carers could please respond to this 30 second survey by close of business Thursday 19 September.

Survey

School Chaplains support the wellbeing of students and the school community. Participation in programs delivered by the chaplain is voluntary. Chaplains deliver a range of non-therapeutic welfare, spiritual and emotional support to students, families and staff at the school. Some of these beneficial activities may include:

Grief and loss programs
Support for the spiritual needs of the school community
Individual support
Mindfulness
Parent workshops
School community support initiatives
Social justice groups
Social skills groups
Youth groups

NAPLAN Results

Year 3 and Year 5 students will receive their NAPLAN results this week.

Due to the basketball gala days being held tomorrow and Friday of this week, students will receive their results as follows:

Year 5 - Thursday 19 September
Year 3 - Friday 20 September

Year 6 Farewell Mass and Supper

The Year 6 Farewell Mass and Supper will be held on Tuesday 17 December at 5:30pm. This very special celebration will begin with Mass followed by dinner in the school hall. Further information will be provided to Year 6 parents early in Term 4.

School Prayer, Assembly and End of Term Awards

Parents, grandparents and carers are more than welcome to join us for prayer and assembly on a Monday afternoon at 2:00pm in the hall. The end of Term Awards will also be presented next week.

Pupil Free Day - Friday 22 November

Friday 22 November will be a pupil free day as staff gather for their annual spirituality day.

What time can my child/ren arrive at school?

It is always wonderful to see students who are keen to be at school but it is really important they are not early and on the street unsupervised by an adult. Several children have been at school over the last few weeks as early at 8:10 am.

The school gates open at 8:30am. Students who arrive before 8:30am are unsupervised by school staff. The only exception are those children who may occasionally arrive a few minutes earlier on a bus.

Catholic Care out of school hours care is available should you need care for your child before 8:30am.

Please note school commences at 8.50am. All students who arrive after this time must go to the office (accompanied by a parent) and receive a late slip.

St Joseph's Bus Policy and Code of Conduct

Many of our students travel to and from school on a bus. On the whole, bus behaviour is within the expectations of a St Joseph's student. However, at times, and more recently, the conduct of some students has been very unacceptable.

Next week, I will be meeting with students who catch a bus to teach them about the school expectations whilst on a bus and to provide systems of support to help all students to be at their best on a bus.

Yes, You Can Make a Difference!

Western Sydney University Study

St Joseph’s is partnering with Dr Caroline Mills from Western Sydney University in a research project related to sensory processing in primary aged students from Kindergarten to Year 4.

Sensory processing involves the processing of information from the environment through the senses, for example, sound, vision, touch, taste, smell, and movement. Difficulties processing sensory information can result in difficulties in classroom participation and success for some children. All K-4 students are invited to be a part of the study.

The study involves you, as a parent or carer, completing two short questionnaires about your child, which will take no longer than 45 minutes of your time. Please see the attached participant information sheet.

If you are interested in participating, return the attached consent form. In exchange for your participation, you will receive a short summary about your child’s sensory processing.
