Principal Post

Dear Families,

I hope that you enjoyed a longer weekend, with family and friends.

It is a busy but important two weeks for our community and I ask you to take careful note of events, dates and times.

We remember in our hearts and prayers all those affected by the Hunter Valley bus accident.

Sacrament of Confirmation

This coming Sunday, 18th June at  2:30pm. several of our Year six students will join with other students from the Parish to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation. Bishop Tony Ireland will confer the Sacrament on these students.  We keep these and all our students in our prayers. May the gifts and fruits of Holy Spirit be evident in our lives for the good of ourselves and others.

Installation of Fr David as the Parish Priest of St John Vianney's

This Sunday 18th June at the 10am Parish Mass, Fr David Francis will be officially installed as the Parish Priest by Bishop Ireland.  Since arriving at SJV, Fr David has had the role of Parish administrator.  We congratulate Fr David.

Year 6 Camp  Parent meeting

This Thursday parents of Year 6 students are invited to a Camp Information session. This will be held at 2:30pm in the Performing Arts Area. The Camp will be held at Phillip Island Adventure Resort in week 1 Term 3 ; Tuesday July 11- Friday  July 14th.

The 'Camping Program' at SJV  in 2024/ 2025

Please note that after careful discernment there will be a change in the arrangements for School Camps. Beginning 2024, there will be  one camp only  for  all Year 5-6 students. There will no longer be a camp for Year 4 students.

Next year the Camp will be for all year 5-6 students and will be for 3 days / 2 nights. This is a reduction in time.  It will be held in May and will be at the Phillip Island Adventure Resort. In 2025 the camp will be for year 5-6 students and will be held at the end of April at Sovereign Hill. The duration of the camp will be 3 days/2 nights.

These changes will mean that a Camp levy will be  charged in both Year 5 & 6.   We are aware that this  will result in an added expense for the current Year 4 parents, who have paid for this year's Year 4 camp. We anticipate the camp costs  will  be slightly reduced in 2024 and 2025 as we reduce the time at camp. This decision has also been taken in light of the new EBA which requires staff to be paid or given 'Time in Lieu' for events outside school hours.  We also took into account the  positive  feedback from community members (from our earlier correspondence) about these possible arrangements.

Pyjama Day

On Monday 19th June students are able to wear pyjama's to school. This is to support Homeless people, through St Vincent de Paul. The event has been co ordinated by our Mini Vinnies. We ask that all students still wear appropriate

footwear (runners or school shoes). Please ensure students are warm. Please bring a gold coin to support this important cause.

Staffing

We are delighted that Syeda Hussain will join our staff as a Learning Support Officer beginning this week until the end of the school year.  We have a brilliant team of LSO's who under the direction of teachers support a range of students.

Semester 1 School Reports will be emailed on Friday 16th June.

Family Teacher Interviews

Early finish - Tuesday 20th June

Family/Teacher Interviews will be held this term next  Tuesday 20th June and Wednesday 21st June. Our online booking system is now closed. If you have not made a booking contact the office.

To facilitate these Parent/Teacher  interviews please note that students will finish at 1.10pm on TUESDAY 20th JUNE.

We will also be holding a 'Celebration of Learning' to coincide with the Family/Teacher Interviews.  Families and students will be required to attend the interviews as the students will be presenting a selection of work samples to their parents.
