Changing

Environments

On the 2nd of June, the Changing Environments elective took a trip to the Science Gallery and Stem Centre of Excellence at Melbourne University.

Students participated in three activities that centred around the theme of sustainability: Future Foods Module - students explored current and future agriculture, and insects as a possible, sustainable solution.

Students were pushed outside their comfort zone by adding crushed crickets to their vegan waffle batter and some were even adventurous enough to try meal worms which tasted like popcorn!

Sustainable Communities Module - students competed in a sustainability-themed gameshow where they were intent on beating Ms Grabowski (they did!). Students were then challenged, in the form of a design sprint, to rapidly develop and pitch a sustainable, insect-based product. Some ideas included makeup and fishing lures. It was great to get out of the classroom and explore new surrounds and try new things.
