Just Macbeth - 'All Hail the Bard - Shakespeare!'

On Thursday 8 June, students in Years 4 -7 were thoroughly entertained by a performance of Just Macbeth (abridged). Bell Shakespeare's travelling company of actors visited NCS twice that day and in their final performance of the day gave their rendition of Andy Griffiths' adaptation of Shakespeare's 'Scottish play'.

There were plenty of jokes and gags, particularly of the toilet humour variety! Side splitting wit and clever repartee were abounding, as the three actors slipped in and out of a variety of characters. They seamlessly presented the rollicking romp that took the main characters, three Aussie schoolkids, back 1000 years to a cold Scottish battlefield and then back again to their drama performance in their classroom!

Students in Years 5-7 had already studied the playscript of the same name in classes and Year 4 will likely do so in next year, so the performance was especially well appreciated by the majority of the audience.

Primary Athletics Ribbons Awarded

Thursday 28 June was a day that many NCS students in Years 3-6 had been eagerly anticipating, being handed their ribbons from Term 2's Athletics track and field events.

Sport House Captains and other Year 6 helpers took the ribbons to the eight classrooms to host mini-versions of award ceremonies. Fifty-one students finished first or second in their age groups for the various events. They have qualified for the CSSA South Coast Primary Zone Athletics Carnival on Friday 4 August (W2, T3). We pray they will do their best as they prepare for this 'next step' in the athletics season.

Well done to everyone who took part in all the events at our carnival and at school. It was inspiring to see the effort that many of you gave to the track and field events.

CSSA State Volleyball Gala Day

Earlier this Term, two NCS Volleyball teams travelled to the Hawkesbury Indoor Stadium where they competed against Christian Schools from all over NSW for the CSSA State Volleyball Gala Day. The Opens Mixed team did very well, winning three out of four games, but fell short in a nail-biting match against ICS, meaning we weren’t quite able to make the finals.

It was a great day and everyone did very well. On the way home, Mr De Rooy and Mr Flippence treated us to a stop at Guzman Y Gomez. Finally, we arrived back at school after a long day at around 6:30pm. A huge thanks to the staff who were able to take us and who were very encouraging, providing us with great insight into what we did well and what we could improve on after games.

Primary 'Chess Heads' excel

On Thursday, Week 8, Term 2, 26 students from Years 2-6 played in the annual South Coast Primary Chess Gala Day. The tournament was being hosted by NCS for the first time. Schools from our region joined us for the fifteen team competition.

NCS included six teams, as a way of 'blooding' many students into their first (friendly) competitive chess tournament. All our students got to play six or seven matches against students from other teams.

Bevan, from the NSW Junior Chess League, organised and ran the day. He provided our chess sets, boards and even some proper digital chess timers for most of the games.

Our 'NCS Team A' finished runners up, just one point behind an equally talented team from Illaroo Road Public School. Alex W had the honour of being one of only two players to win all their games played. All of our students got at least one positive result and all our teams scored wins on the day (which doesn't always happen).

Hat's off to Josh A and Bethany D who played in a 'barbarians' style team with two students from another school. A fantastic time was had by one and all! Everyone seemed keen to play in future tournaments or friendlies that will be organised.

The Wednesday lunchtime Primary Chess Club has had massive growth this year. Some weeks we have more students than we've got boards and sets! It's a nice problem to have! Thank you to Mrs. Tameka Giddings for her work in organising and running the chess group each week. Much appreciated.

Year 7 Student of the Week

Sarah A received student of the week for excellent academic achievement, being a great friend, and always praying in AM. Sarah is a wonderful example of the school values of community, care and character.

Students 'pushup' for mental health

Our amazing senior student and prefect Noah S organised and led our secondary school in the 2023 Pushup Challenge over the month of June.

Over 50 students and teachers signed up for a daily challenge of pushups to raise awareness (and money!) for mental health initiatives to help change the direction of mental health in Australia.

Over 87000 pushups were performed and $4296 was raised! Well done everyone that took part, and a particular well done to our 2022 school captain Bethany W for raising over $500!

We had 10 students that managed to raise around (or over) $200 each! Thanks to everyone that took part...

Stage 5 Food Technology assessment task

This term, Stage 5 Food Technology students were asked to design, plan and prepare a dish for a specific dietary need. The result was a variety of nutritious, appealingly presented, culinary delights; to satisfy a wide variety of special needs. Well done Stage 5 Food Tech!

Staff too strong for Year 12 in Volleyball

We concluded Term 2 with another Year 12 vs Staff match. This time it was volleyball! In an impressive display of skill, the staff team dominated the match and emerged victorious, overpowering the students with their experience and expertise.
