Kids Corner

The Kids Corner section of this fortnight’s newsletter features pieces written by Eric (Year 1), Oliver (Year 3) and Akeesha (Year 4). Thank you to all of the children who have contributed and I trust everyone enjoys reading their pieces just as much as I do!

My Hero – By Oliver (3A)
Everyone has a well trusted hero in their hearts. My hero is Mr Fred. He is the head chief of the local fire department. He has short hair, a strong muscular body, and a huge smile on his face. His looks compliment his nice character. He is the most kind and generous man.

First of all, Mr Fred takes hundreds and hundreds of risks in his community. He is such a brave and strong man and sets a good example to his fellow fire fighters. They quickly learn from their chief Mr Fred. He is so brave that he isn’t scared of any types of fires. He has saved many lives throughout his lifetime. This is why Mr Fred should be awarded the “Hero Award”.

Furthermore, he is always available and there for his fellow fire fighter friends. Mr Fred never sleeps. He is there whenever there is a fire in a blink of an eye. Mr Fred is a person that stays with his team through thick and thin. Don’t you think he is worthy to have an award?

Moreover, he teaches many different institutes, family gatherings and even the whole community. He teaches and more minds grown. He is everywhere in the world to teach. Therefore, he is a community leader and be handed an award!
In conclusion, many people in my local community suggest that Mr Fred must this annual awards. He is brave, strong, self-sufficient, generous and a great social leader. Therefore, Mr Fred must be handed the award this year.

My Favourite Park – By Eric (1A)
It was my first day going to Jells Park. I was excited and eager. I was looking forward to riding my bike over the enormous puddles. I went with my mum, dad, and my brother. The weather was slightly rainy, so we had to have hats and jackets. It was such a wonderful day.
There were beautiful birds, giant trees, long stretchy lakes, barbeques, and a play area. We went riding on the bike tracks and saw a big lake. There were ducks with brown, black, white, and green feathers. Millions of ducks were staring at us.
Lots and lots of ducks were breeding. When we played cricket I whooshed the ball so high and high. My brother accidentally pushed me into a puddle, and I was very annoyed.

At the end of the day, we were so exhausted that we went home to watch TV and relax. I was so thankful for my parents, and I want to go there again.

Do not change the school finish time!

Currently government schools finish at 3:30pm. The Government is proposing a change of time, we cannot let this happen!

Firstly, the late dismissal will shorten time at home. How will kids finish tons of homework? This homework is important for our learning. Many people believe kids should do homework. But they are not forgetting those poor children coming home from school have to eat, wash, do chores and then do homework. So, studying late would be a bad idea!

Secondly, kids have extracurricular classes like sports. Thus, with the extra school time, kids will have to stop playing sport. School will then be a huge wall separating us from our extracurricular classes.

Thirdly, most of the offices close at 5pm, when parents come to pick up children they would be very late. Time clashes quickly.

However, some people are supporting the government arguing that staying longer will improve kids knowledge, but they are wrong!

Finally, it is crystal clear that we should not change school finishing time. There is no time for homework, no time for sport and everyone would get home late. Let’s campaign against making school longer!
