Red Cross Pillowcase Program

Last Friday Stage 2 participated in the Red Cross pillowcase Program. The Pillowcase Program helps children prepare for, cope with and respond to an emergency.

Disaster resilience is the ability to anticipate, prepare for, respond to, adapt to and recover from the impact of emergencies. Practical skills that contribute to disaster resilience can be learned and practised. Children who participate in disaster resilience building activities have been shown to be better equipped to deal with an emergency.

Research also suggests that educating children in disaster preparedness plays a part in creating a culture of preparedness and resilience in the community as a whole. Children are positive change agents within their families and their communities. If given the opportunity to participate, they can make a very real and positive difference before, during and after an emergency.

Below are some photos of the students participating in the program.

Listening to the ladies talk about the program.
Deciding what items are a need or a want.
Making Decisions
Is it a want or a need?
It is hard deciding.
Lots of discussion.
Sometimes we need help making decisions.
We are almost there.
Oh no we have too many needs. We have to cut back the items. Which ones do we keep?
Decorating our pillowcases.
Making them special.
Ready to use.
For an emergency.
What a great program.
Thank you Red Cross.

ATTENDANCE - please read this information.

The school rolls are the most important legal documents in any school. It is vital that all attendances are recorded and all absences are explained through Compass. Our teachers mark their rolls every morning at 8:50am. For parents and carers, it is a legal requirement that you log in to Compass to explain all absences within 7 days of your child being away from school, however it is so much easier if you attend to this on the day as soon as you receive the reminder.  We ask that you keep up with this task as a matter of great importance.

At the end of the semester, the CSO conduct an audit of school attendances.  This is reflected in your child's record and their school report. We have been sending home paper copies of unexplained absences and have had some success with them being returned however we still have quite a few outstanding and we really need to have these returned to us this week please.

Our morning bell rings at 8:50am. It is very important that your child arrives at school before this time.  If the gate is closed when you drop off your child/ren, you need to come to the office to sign them in so that their late arrival is not recorded as unexplained. Please ensure your child arrives before 8:50am to avoid any unexplained late entries in Compass.

MEDICAL EXPIRY/UPDATES

Notifications went out on Wednesday, 24 May, 2023 via Compass for those students whom we require to have either a puffer for the classroom and/or updated medical information ie. current asthma plan.  Please check if you received a notification ARM- Medication Expiry Notification and access the attached letter to view what action we need you to take as soon as possible.

Please note that it is recommended that all students with asthma carry an in-date puffer and spacer in their school bag at all times.

AFTERNOON TRAVEL ARRANGEMENT CHANGES

Please email quiadmin@arm.catholic.edu.au before 2pm if you need to change your child's afternoon travel arrangements as these changes are shared with the students at this time each day.

UNIFORM SHIRTS

Some of our families have mentioned that they are having trouble finding long sleeved blue shirts from suppliers this year.  We have been sent a sample of the Trutex Long Sleeve Shirt - Dark Blue, from LW Reid and if you are interested in having a look at the sample it is here in the office.  If you would like to order shirts from us we are happy to put in a one off order this year.  We would need to know how many shirts and which size/s you require by the end of the week in an email quiadmin@arm.catholic.edu.au please. The shirts will sell for $20 each and will need to be paid for using our Eftpos machine in the front office upon collection.  We will not be stocking these shirts so they will not be put in to Compass in the uniform section.

SCHOOL FEES

Reminder Statements, issued by the Catholic Schools Office (CSO), Armidale, for Term 2 fees were emailed on Thursday, 8th June for those who still have a balance.  Please check your email and attend to payments as soon as possible.   Regular payments can be set up directly from your bank account via BPAY or payments can be made through CompassPay.  If you have any queries regarding your school fees please don't hesitate to contact either Pauline or Tracey.
