Reading

In Reading this term, we focused on predicting, activating prior knowledge, identifying verbs, making text to self-connections, answering literal questioning and retelling. We used a range of fiction texts to support our learning. Some of our favourite stories were ‘The Very Busy Spider’ and our simultaneous story time text, ‘The Speedy Sloth’.  We learned to ask questions to develop our understanding of the texts we read. We have used a range of resources including reading eggs, and interactive activities to make our learning fun and engaging.

Writing

In Writing, we continued to challenge ourselves to write simple sentences, using punctuation such as full stops and capital letters. We are now recording initial sounds that we can hear in words and attempting to spell high frequency words correctly. We used rich experiences to write our recounts including our St John incursion, Healthy Kids incursion and excursion to the library! We excitedly delved into narratives, especially enjoying writing new endings for books that we were reading.

Maths

In Maths, we participated in many hands-on, collaborative tasks to consolidate our number knowledge, identifying numbers that are one more and one less. We loved exploring graphs, thinking of questions that require a yes or no answer and gathering the data for these. We even used the data to create a simple graph!

Japanese

This term in Japanese the Prep students learnt about Japanese culture through various videos based on student interest and questions e.g. Japanese homes and food. The students continued to learn classroom routines and phrases such as how to say “good luck” and “well done” in class games. Students developed their reading and writing with simple kanji numbers through play-based activities. They were offered opportunities to sing and dance to Japanese songs to build their speaking and listening skills.

Performing Arts

In Term Two our Foundation students worked hard towards their first cohort assembly performance, learning the lyrics and dance choreography to a song called ‘I’m on my way’. They rehearsed together to build their confidence on stage and were very proud of themselves when they shared their performance with the school community at assembly.

PE

During term 2, students have been introduced to a variety of ball skills. There has been lots of opportunities for free play where students can demonstrate their ball skills. We have concentrated on skills such as rolling, throwing, catching and bouncing a ball. Students have been able to work with a partner and in small groups.
