Ms Cerene Hughes - Head of Sport and Activities

Welcome back to Term 3, a time filled with excitement and anticipation as we commence the highly anticipated QGSSSA Winter Fixtures and Club Sport Programs. Clayfield College Sport hopes everyone had a restful break and is ready to dive back into the spirit of sportsmanship and friendly competition.

This weekend marks the beginning of Round 1 of the Winter Fixtures, where our athletes will showcase their skills in a range of sports including Hockey, Netball, Tennis, and Volleyball. Our teams have been training diligently in preparation for Round 1 against St Hilda's on Saturday 16 July.

In addition to the Winter Fixtures, QGSSSA Athletics training has also commenced. This exciting opportunity allows our athletes to further develop their skills, endurance, and agility, preparing them for the QGSSSA Athletics Championships and respective Queensland Athletics competitions and events. We encourage interested students in Years 7 to 12 to participate.

For further details regarding training schedules, fixtures, and other important information, we urge you to refer to the College App. The App will serve as a comprehensive resource, providing up-to-date information, notifications, and any changes that may occur throughout the season. We highly recommend all members of our community to download and stay connected through this valuable tool.

We wish all our athletes the best of luck in their upcoming fixtures and hope they enjoy the competition.

May this term be filled with teamwork, resilience, and personal growth for all members of our College community. Go Clayfield!

Gymnastics

Iara Chaves (Year 7) has been shining bright while proudly representing Queensland at the fiercely contested 2023 Border Challenge where gymnasts from NSW, WA, VIC and SA take on Queensland's Level 7 to 9 gymnasts and compete for BEST STATE!

The two-round competition showcased incredible talent in both team and individual events. Iara completed her Border Challenge campaign taking:

LEVEL 7

  • GOLD | Individual All-Around
  • GOLD | Floor
  • SILVER | Beam
  • BRONZE | Vault
  • FIFTH PLACE | Bars

Let's give a big round of applause to Iara. Remarkable talent!

Basketball

Maddi Fellowes (Year 8), Milla Markovic (Year 8) and Summer Meis (Year 8), QGSSSA Senior Basketball players, represented their affiliated associations with passion and skill at the recent Basketball Queensland U14 State Championships in Toowoomba.

Maddi and Summer formed an unstoppable duo in Division 2 for Brisbane Capitals. They dominated the court, remaining undefeated in all seven games! The grand final was an absolute nail-biter against Sunshine Coast Phoenix Teal, with a final score of 63-62 in their favour.

Milla showcased her incredible talent in Division 1 for Northside Wizards. Her dedication and hard work paid off as her team emerged victorious in the grand final against Logan. We're thrilled to announce that Milla will be representing her affiliated association at the National U14 Championships in Melbourne later this year. Milla has also been identified as one of the emerging players in Queensland and has been selected to participate in Basketball Queensland’s Future Development Program.

Congratulations to our amazing Basketballers for their outstanding performances and for representing their affiliated associations with such class and determination.

Football

Our very own resident football sensation, Juilianna-Bree (JB) Talbot-Cooke, has been setting the field ablaze with her dynamic performances on the green. Her outstanding skills and dedication earned her a well-deserved spot in the Australian Indigenous Koalas side, competing against New Zealand in a thrilling series throughout the holidays.

JB has been an inspiration to us all, representing the strength, resilience and rich cultural heritage of our Indigenous communities. Her selection was a testament to her hard work, passion and love for the game.

The International Indigenous Festival of Football was a celebration of sport but also a platform that promoted unity, diversity, and the important values that football represents. JB and the Australian Indigenous Koalas team is a representation of the power of sport in bridging cultures, breaking barriers, and fostering understanding among nations.

We couldn't be prouder of JB’S achievements and the positive impact she continues to make. Together, we celebrate!
