Mass in Celebration of Founder’s Day

On Thursday, 29 June, the College celebrated Founder’s Day.  Founder’s Day celebrates the legacy of our Founder, Daniel Delany, who, inspired by the wisdom of the Holy Spirit, saw fit to call young faith-filled women to minister as vessels of Christ to the wounded and weary. With the modicum, Fortiter et Suaviter, with strength and gentleness, Bishop Delany commissioned the Brigidine Sisters, who, like disciples, spread throughout the earth, bringing the Good News of Christ to all they encountered.

Our Mass was celebrated by Fr Michael, the Assistant Parish Priest of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Randwick. It was wonderful to welcome Fr Michael to his first whole-school mass with the College, having celebrated our Year 7 Mass earlier this year and regularly at our Morning Masses.

The mass was a beautiful opportunity to celebrate our patroness and founder and, as a community, reaffirm our commitment to continuing the legacy of this incredible College.

Year 11 Retreat

Across weeks 9 and 10, Year 11 attended Retreat at Benedict XVI at the foot of the Blue Mountains. At this incredible venue, the girls spent three days reflecting on their faith, their journey, and what the year ahead may bring.

I thank the girls for their incredible spirit and willingness to be vulnerable and open during these three days. The students witnessed the retreat theme ‘CommUNITY: One Body, Many Parts’, evidenced in their care for those around them and their want to spend time with those who may not have known.

This invaluable experience could not happen without an incredible team of teachers who, in the midst of the end-of-term madness, valued the opportunity and the importance of the Year 11 retreat.

Winter Appeal

Thank you for your generous support of the Brigidine College Winter Appeal. Over the past few weeks, we have witnessed an incredible amount of donated items, which will filter back into our local community through the Eastern Re Vinnies Conference.

Year 12 SOR II: Sydney Jewish Museum

On Wednesday, 12 July, students from Year 12 Studies of Religion II will travel to the Sydney Jewish Museum for the Judaism HSC Study Day. This day, in collaboration with Sydney Catholic Schools, will explore the Judaism Depth Study, and include talks from Holocaust Survivors which will provide invaluable, authentic insight into the student's study of Holocaust Theology.

This day will provide a further appreciation and understanding of their fields of study; Bioethics, Death and Mourning and the role of God and the Covenant within Holocaust Theology.

Farewell

This week we farewelled a significant member of our Religious Education department, Ms Bedelia Melville. She has been a crucial member of the R.E. and T.A.S. departments since 2017. Throughout her years at the College, she has been instrumental in the development of Studies in Catholic Thought and has sought every opportunity to make Christ known to the learners in her class. While she will be deeply missed by the department, we share in her excitement as she begins the next phase of her educational journey.

Wishing you a wonderful and restful holiday period,

Jamie Lee Wood
