From the Assistant Principals

Parent Helpers Information Session
The partnership between home and school is critical in the success of any classroom, and at RNPS we welcome, and encourage parent helpers in a range of different capacities. One way that many parents choose to become involved is through helping in the classroom during learning time. We would love to have parents and grandparents assisting with our literacy, numeracy and CBL learning times. Often, an extra set of hands is invaluable, and can be a rewarding experience for both the students and the helpers!
To make sure that those of you who would like to offer your time as a parent helper feel fully equipped and confident in the classroom, we are offering an information session on Tuesday 25th of February at 2:30pm in the staffroom. During this session we will outline some of the tasks you may expect to undertake when assisting students, some different strategies and handy hints that will not only be useful in the classroom, but also at home. Generally, it is the new Foundation parents that attend these sessions, but all who are keen to assist are most welcome.
Please indicate your interest in attending the session by emailing either myself on mann.jessica.l@edumail.vic.gov.au or Fiona Davis on davis.fiona.f@edumail.vic.gov.au
ThinkUKnow Cyber Safety
It was great to have an enthusiastic and engaged turnout of parents to Tuesday night's Cybersafety presentation by. Living with children and teenagers in the digital age can present some challenges for families, and it was great to hear some of those concerns addressed and some strategies presented on Tuesday night. There are some statistics around screen time and online activity that can be a little confronting, but addressing these issues as a family is important. The graphic below may spark some critical conversations.
More information can be found here https://www.thinkuknow.org.au/ and specific information relating to family internet use can be found on the parent portal at https://www.thinkuknow.org.au/parents-portal
Thankyou to Vanessa Sango for coordinating Tuesday's event.
Connect Groups
Last year we introduced our school wide 'Connect Groups', which were a wonderful way to foster social connection, relationship building and promote our Positive Education philosophy. We are excited to start our Connect Groups again this year, and as always, encourage as many parents and family members to attend. Your contributions to the groups are invaluable, and as well as providing another avenue for our students to connect, it provides social engagement and connection for the wider school community.
Usually, these sessions run every 3rd week on a Friday afternoon in place of assembly. With our 5/6 students involved in interschool sport at different times, this may change as the year progresses.
The first Connect Group is planned for Friday February 28 and we have a Connect Group planned for the 20th of March to tie in with Harmony Day celebrations. We would love to see you there! More information will follow in the next newsletter.
