Our talented Year 9 cohort

Year 9 students have been working incredibly hard during the online learning period and must be praised for their constant dedication and approach to learning important content and skills. Our Year 9 cohort continues to have the opportunity to immerse themselves in valuable Connect sessions every Monday and Friday morning. These have included sessions such as RU OK? day, a House Meeting Leadership Challenge and Book week initiatives.

Book Week

Book week was celebrated with a great mentimeter and dress up with the Year 9 cohort and Connect teachers.

Students enjoyed talking to their Year Advisers about their favourite books.

DOVES Program for students keen to advocate!

The DOVES acronym stands for ‘Department of Student Voices in Education and Schools’. Two of our talented Year 9 students Anabela Duric and Victor Yort have been selected to

represent our school at the DOVES forum which was held on Thursday, 16 September.

It is a ministerial priority that was announced and launched in Term 3, 2020 by the NSW Minister for Education, Sarah Mitchell. The DOVES forum provided students with the opportunity to voice their concerns on a range of issues.

Keeping COVID safe when exercising during the holidays!

Police are keen to ensure all members of our community keep COVID safe and follow NSW Health advice when exercising. Be sure when you leave your home to exercise in the holidays you act in a COVID safe way. It is important to exercise with only one buddy and avoid the ‘join in’ where you play with large groups. The only safe way is it exercise with one buddy and wear a mask. You are only allowed to take off your mask when you are exerting yourself. I know parents have been concerned that their sons and daughters have been sent home by the police when out exercising. The police do appreciate and promote physical activity and will only act in accordance to the current NSW Health regulations to keep all community members safe.

Our school captains Violeta Bozanic and Max Krol have written a wonderful

message to all Cecil High School staff in appreciation of their hard work, dedication and passion! This message has been sent to all staff at Cecil Hill High school as a part of a small gift to say a big thank you from all the students:

Despite lockdown being a challenging time for everyone,  the staff of Cecil Hills High School never fail to demonstrate the meaning of resilience. On behalf of all students we want to thank you for continuing to strive for our success and keeping us motivated during this difficult period. We are beyond grateful for your consistent support, time and effort in ensuring this experience is as easy and enjoyable as possible. Thank you again, and we are all looking forward to expressing our gratitude in person!

Online Education - "How to fulfil"

All staff across the school attended a staff meeting focusing on Online Education ‘How to fulfil’.  It is a complex feat to provide that ideal balance for our community,  but I am confident we will endeavour to refine our practices through successful collaboration and extensive evaluation across the school. The key areas of focus are Creating Safe Minds for all students through developing connections, short, sharp and explicit teacher instruction and time for movement and hands on application style activities.

Teachers had the opportunity to learn about the skills of an online learner and how better to adapt their approach to teaching and assessment for all students. Some of the questions addressed are indicated below. Our future focus is to ensure all students have more time and for teachers to adopt the ideal classroom model for their key learning area to successfully balance their approach to online learning.

SRC and the Advocate for Children and Young People Program

ACYP (Advocate for Children and Young People Program)works with Multicultural NSW to provide the NSW Government with more information about how young people are feeling about the current COVID-19 outbreak, with a focus on the LGAs (Local Government Areas) across Sydney currently facing greater restrictions.

Several of our SRC (Student Representative Council) members had the opportunity to voice their opinions at this forum which was held on Wednesday, 1 September 2021.

The consultation included:

  • how the lockdown is impacting you;
  • your attitudes towards the restrictions;
  • how you get information; and
  • what would help young people to stay safe during this time.

This information was then shared with the NSW Government COVID Response team.

Thanks to our Parents and Carers!

The SRC designed a poster and sent thank you messages to our parents via an SMS!

We salute our parent body on their commitment to their children’s online learning.

You all need a good rest in the holidays and must continue to pat yourself on the back for all that you do!
