Art for Healing and Wellbeing
2021 Operation Art Exhibition Nomination
Every year schools across New South Wales are invited to participate in Operation Art, an initiative of The Children’s Hospital at Westmead in association with the NSW Department of Education. It is a unique contemporary children’s exhibition which encourages students to create artworks for children in hospitals. Operation Art focuses on creating a positive environment to aid the healing and recovery process of young patients.
Congratulations to Year 10 students - Cisem Kolac and Linh Pham; and to Year 7 students - Joanna Cao and Kiara Lovt whose artworks have been nominated to participate in this worthy cause.
Their work will be displayed outdoors at Sydney Olympic Park, either as a printed reproduction or in a projected exhibition display later in the year. The exhibition will also be delivered virtually on The NSW Department of Education Arts Unit website and we will share the link to view, once that becomes available early in Term 4.

Title: Feathers at Dusk
Medium:Printmaking
Subject matter: Living Things
Artist Statement: The depths of night, the silence of dusk, is more often than not associated with evil and misfortune, the dark arts and witchcraft. This piece aims to showcase the beauty of midnight and how there is wonder and light even in the darkest places.
Artist: Linh Pham
Year: 10
Title: Budgerigar
Medium:Printmaking
Subject matter: Living Things
Artist Statement: My work explores the concept of the well-known Australian bird, budgerigars, being free in the wild. This work attempts to showcase the importance of Australia's native species and truly are more than just pets.
Artist: Joanna Cao
Year: 7
Title: Coloured Variants
Medium:Drawing
Subject matter: Living Things Artist Statement: My artwork is based on koi fish displayed in their unique habitat. They are known to swim in a circular motion as the fish separates from one another, such as results of water droplets. I am fascinated with their acrobatic movement in the water.
Artist: Kiara Lovt
Year: 7
Title: Nishikigoi
Medium:Drawing
Subject matter: Living Things
Artist Statement: My body of work displays a postmodern version of a koi fish set in a surreal background. I have attempted to capture its delicate and agile appearance through the use of expressive linear markings.
