25th Anniversary

In 2021, Cecil Hills High School celebrates its 25th anniversary.  We expect to hold our celebratory events in Term 4.  We will advise of our revised date when confirmed.

Updated Advice

In terms of my introductory quote, as Term 3 is now “gone” we have completed one full school term of online learning, we all hope that coronavirus will be “going, going, gone” as soon as possible. It is important to ensure you have the most reliable information as parents. You can access advice from the NSW Department of Education in relation to rules and requirements for NSW public schools here:

https://education.nsw.gov.au/covid-19/advice-for-families

Parents are reminded to ensure they download our school app, like our Facebook page, ensure their email address is registered with the school and refer to our school website regularly to access the latest information.

Staff Appointments

Congratulations to Mr Chris King who has been appointed to permanent role as a Learning and Support Teacher at Cecil Hills High School.

Mr King is a wonderful asset in our school and he has worked tirelessly in learning support to ensure our students are supported.  I'm sure you will join me in congratulating Mr King on attaining this role.

Learning From Home

We trust families are balancing the demands of students learning from home and parents working from home.  We received wonderful feedback on our approach to online learning from parents at our most recent Parent Information Session and we are proud of this positive feedback.  I encourage families to reach out to the school if you need any support as we are here to help.

A reminder that students log into Microsoft Teams at the start of each lesson to engage with explicit teaching from their timetabled teacher.  In addition, students log into their grade assembly at 8:30am on the following days to receive important announcements:

Year 7: Tuesday and Friday

Year 8: Monday and Friday

Year 9: Monday and Friday

Year 10: Monday and Friday

Year 11: Tuesday and Friday

Year 12: Monday and Friday

Parents may receive a reminder text message a few minutes before the grade assembly is about to commence.

Wellbeing Day

The first day of Term 4 is Tuesday, 5 October 2021. Our school will participate in a wellbeing day where students complete tasks associated with positive mental health and wellbeing. As a result, normal timetabled classes will not be held on this day.  Students will log into a grade assembly hosted by their Year Advisers and Deputy Principal where the outline for our wellbeing day will be provided.  During this time, teachers will be engaged in professional learning activities and preparation for Term 4.

Return to School

The NSW Department of Education has announced staggered return dates for students:

  • Monday, 25 October 2021 (Year 12)
  • Monday, 1 November 2021 (Year 11)
  • Monday, 8 November 2021 (Year 7 to Year 10)

Parents are advised that these are not fixed dates and are based on case numbers being below a certain threshold at the relevant time.  In addition, as a large school we need to prioritise HSC students completing exams on-site which commence on Tuesday, 9 November 2021 and this may impact on the return date for other students.

In early Term 4, the school will undertake significant planning to ensure HSC exams occur in a safe and supportive manner for students.  We will provide further information on the organisation of HSC exams and our return to school plan in Term 4.

Junior Improvement Program

Our Junior Improvement Program supports students in Year 9 and Year 10 to finish incomplete work.  In Term 4, this will operate on Tuesdays from 12pm to 1:30pm. Parents who wish to find out more about the program can contact Mr Chambour in Social Sciences who is our Junior Coordinator.

Parent Information Sessions

We had more than 50 parents join our most recent online Parent Information Session which was fantastic.  Our next Parent Information Session will be held at 6:30pm on Monday, 1 November 2021.  This will be followed by a short P&C meeting for those who wish to stay online. Information on logging into the Zoom meeting will be emailed to parents.

I look forward to continuing to work with the staff, students and parents of Cecil Hills High School, the best school in NSW.
