Book Week 2021

75 years in Australia!

2021 marks 75 years of Book Week in Australia. The aim of the week of celebrations is to engage the community with literature for young Australians.

At Cecil Hills High School, we are committed to building a reading culture.  We celebrated this and the work of Australian authors and illustrators during Book Week. Cecil Book Week saw us bringing our school community together to share their reading experiences in our virtual Year meetings:

  • Dressing up
  • Talking about what we’re reading
  • Highlighting our bookshelves at home
  • Discussing our favourite reads put a real buzz into our meetings, and put the spotlight right on books and reading!

As teachers, we were thrilled to share our reading experiences and fulfill the really important role as reading mentors.  Students similarly shared their stories.

Families can do the same at home, so take the time to read with your children, enquire about what they might be reading, or talk about what book you are currently enjoying. Get a family bookshelf going. Dive into the world of a book.  It’s a way of going somewhere else together!

During the Year 12 meeting, Mrs Cremin reminded us all of the benefits of reading and made a not so subtle advertisement for “Pride and Prejudice”.

Happy reading everyone!
