Hello from Year 7

We're very proud of you!

Year 7 students have been doing tremendously well in all aspects of online learning. Their attendance continues to be one of the best among the school and their commitment to their studies has equalled this.

Each week we continue to be amazed by their positivity, kindness and resilience during this unprecedented time. Connect meetings take place every Tuesday and Friday morning from 8.35am-9.00am on Microsoft Teams.  During these Connect meetings, students learn about mental health, mindfulness and ways to cope with the stresses they may be experiencing during lockdown. We are grateful to our Connect teachers who have been sharing images and discussing their adventures as to what's been getting them through lockdown!

We are extremely grateful to our students, parents, staff and community members who continue to support the Cecil Hills High School community and the wellbeing of our students.

Book Week 2021

Book Week brought some lighthearted fun for Year 7 as staff and students got involved! Year 7 students and staff were encouraged to dress up for last Friday's Connect meeting and share what they are currently reading as well as their favourite books. Earlier in the week, Year 7 also shared their book suggestions in the form of book reviews.

Old Worlds, New Worlds, Other Worlds

Old Worlds, New Worlds, Other Worlds theme was a perfect fit in encouraging the world of reading. Year 7 were recommended to open a book and explore an alternate reality as a way to cope with the stress of online learning.

We are so thankful for the involvement of both staff and students as we navigate through this difficult time.

Book Reviews

Liana Luong

I am currently rereading Auggie & Me: Three Wonder Stories.

The book is being told from three different perspectives. From Julian’s, Pluto’s and Shingaling’s perspectives. They all talk about their experiences with Auggie. (When they realise how Auggie was different or if they bullied Auggie). This book is all about being kind no matter what the situation is. You might see something that shocks you and you think is unpleasant but it’s all about treating someone kindly no matter what their appearance or their actions are. Take the time to really know that person and their personality instead of judging on their appearances. Hence the saying “Don’t judge a book by its cover”. I’d rate this book a ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ because it’s a really intriguing story that is based on a true story. When I was supposed to go to sleep I would get a torch and read the book because I wanted to know more.

I am reading the whole series of Diary of a Wimpy Kid

I currently am up to the first book and I’m enjoying it a lot. It is about Rowley and Greg Heffley’s funny life every month and it is written in diary form.

Last night I just finished reading The Land Of Stories - The Enchantress Returns.

After decades of hiding the evil enchantress who cursed sleeping beauty is back for revenge! Alex and Conner haven’t been back to the land of stories since their last battle there when they completed the wishing spell. But one night they find that the enchantress has kidnapped their mother from our world and taken her as a prisoner in the land of stories. Can Alex and Conner create a team of heroes and save their mother and the rest of the fairytale world! I would rate the book 5/5 as it is so interesting and always has you sitting on the edge of your seat. I spent 3 hours yesterday reading my book because I couldn’t put it down. I also gave it a 5/5 as I cried at the end of the book.

R U OK Day

R U Okay?  Year 7 getting into the spirit of R U Ok Day by dressing in yellow and asking the all important question “Are you okay?”   It has also been fantastic to see students reaching out to each other and staff if they aren’t okay and seeking support.
