From the Principal

Dear Parents and Friends of St Therese's Primary School,

Lockdown 6.0!

This week we find ourselves in another lockdown. Again, I appreciate the way our teachers flipped learning so that the transition to remote learning could happen relatively seamlessly. Unfortunately, it seems that these interruptions seem to be a part of our lives for some time to come. Hopefully, we will hear good news later this week so that students can return to school on Friday. As soon as the news is delivered, I will let all families know via email.

To keep our community safe it is important that;

  • masks are worn when inside and outside,
  • QR codes are used to check-in,
  • if anyone is unwell, get tested and stay home,
  • social distancing is observed,
  • if you can work at home, you continue to do so.

While Regional Victoria has opened up today, we remain in lockdown as Cranbourne is a suburb of Metropolitan Melbourne. As such, St Therese's will remain closed during remote schooling but will stay open for students in the following categories:

  • Students of parents, guardians, or carers considered an authorised worker who cannot work from home:
    • where there are two parents, guardians, or carers, both must be essential workers, working outside the home
    • for single parents, guardians, or carers, the essential worker must be working outside the home.
  • Vulnerable students including:
    • children in out-of-home care
    • children deemed by Child Protection and/or Family Services to be at risk of harm
    • children identified by the school as vulnerable (including via referral from a family violence agency, homelessness or youth justice service or mental health or other health service)
    • children with a disability who cannot learn from home due to vulnerability or family stress

A google form was sent out last Friday for those who are eligible to book their child/ren into onsite supervision. If you require onsite supervision, please email me as soon as possible .

Attached is a link to the current restrictions and how they relate to us in Metro Melbourne.

Yesterday we had scheduled a Virtual Assembly. Unfortunately, due to technical difficulties that we are working to address with our IT team at our head office, we were unable to go ahead. The assembly will be rescheduled as soon as the problem has been rectified. I apologize for any inconvenience.

On a positive note, our building project is progressing really well. The roof is currently being replaced and on the new roof will be a bank of solar panels. Inside, the plastering is currently being completed! It won't be long before the admin staff can move into the new section and works will begin on the refurbishment of the 7 classrooms.

Last week, we held the School Advisory Committee meeting. It was held virtually due to the current restrictions. I would like to welcome a new member to our Board - Joanne Bouke. Joanne is our new Parish Representative. Our next meeting will be held in October and is our Annual General Meeting where we vote on office bearers. If anyone is interested in joining the team, please email me at your earliest convenience.

Please continue to be patient and understanding of one another.

I hope you have a good week and I look forward to when everyone can return to school once more!
