Under the Spotlight

Nikita Stanley (Year 3 Teacher)

Getting to know Nikita.

1. I have been teaching at Ocean Grove Primary School for 7 years. I love being a teacher and watching students grow into the best learners they can be.

2. I was born in Zimbabwe, Africa and moved here in 2003.

3. I have a son called Ollie who is nearly 2 years old.

4. I don’t like eating seafood, only fish.

5. On weekends I enjoy spending time with family and friends and going for long walks near the beach with my husband Jarrod, Ollie and my two staffy dogs.

6. I am also a personal trainer and take boxing classes at Anytime Fitness Gym in Drysdale.

7. I have represented Zimbabwe for BMX in 1998 and came 4th in the World.

8. I have competed in many triathlons both in Africa and Australia.

9. I love travelling and have been to many places in Europe and America. One of my favourite places to visit in Europe is Switzerland and in America is New York.

10. I really don’t enjoy doing dishes. I would rather cook and ask Jarrod to do the dishes 😊.

Chelsea Perinac (Year 5 Teacher)

10 things you might not know about me!

  1. While I always wanted to be a teacher, and it was in my blood so to speak, there was a time when I considered studying to become a Forensic Scientist. (But I hadn’t really anticipated all of the science subjects (or the strong stomach) I’d need to successfully pursue this career.)
  2. I love to travel and learn about different languages, cultures and customs. My last trip to Egypt and Jordan was simply incredible and had there not been a pandemic, my husband and I had planned to spend around 3 months in Croatia last year.
  3. I love musicals and have seen well over 20 including: Sister Act, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, Hot Shoe Shuffle, The Lion King, Strictly Ballroom, Fame, Les Misérables and Chicago. I can not wait till later in the year when Moulin Rouge opens in Melbourne.
  4. I am so proud to have a great grandmother who is 105 years old! My nana Jean has some amazing genes indeed and she is showing no signs of slowing down at all, ruling the roost at her nursing home!
  5. I’ve been teaching students at OGPS since 2006 and I am so proud to work at such a wonderful school with awesome colleagues, kids and families too.
  6. Before I became a teacher I worked as a ‘shelver’ in a library and then as a waitress / assistant manager at a super classy establishment: ‘Smorgy’s all you can eat’ restaurant.
  7. I love trashy TV and have watched Home and Away since I was in high school. I still tape the episodes I can’t watch live now so I can keep up with what’s happening ‘in the bay.’
  8. I have been to a lot of amazing music concerts in my life – some of the most incredible live acts I have seen are Linkin Park, KISS, Blink 182, All American Rejects and Avicii.
  9. I am pretty terrified of heights and get woozy when I look down from really high places. So the viewing deck of the Burj Khalifa wasn’t one of my favourite places in Dubai.
  10. One day, in the future, my husband and I would like to buy some acreage and build a modern farmhouse, Grand Designs style. (NB: very very very long term goal given the housing market at the moment!)
