Book Week - Old Worlds, New Worlds, Other Worlds - What world do you live in?

Be the author of your own book (cover) competition:

Students were invited to submit entries and create a book cover about themselves living in a 'World'.  Thank you to all the participants and congratulations to Lorraine Legaspi for the winning entry

- Beneath the seas of Gira by Lorraine Legaspi.

“On a glimmering blue planet with underwater cities.  From a purified ocean to a filthy brown sea.  Crops began to perish, as well as threatening the lives of the people.  Who could have been behind it, and why.  Only the water sentry, the one who holds the power, can save their planet, Gira.” This sounds so interesting, we think Lorraine should write the whole book!  Our owl mascot, Boobook is certainly enjoying the story.

During Book Weeks we used the Library Teams channel to promote the various themes of Book Week - Old Worlds (history and historical fiction), New Worlds (science fiction) and Other Worlds (fantasy and fantastical places around the world). If you missed them go online and check out the posts and links

It’s competition time! – DIY Scarecrow

The Library and the Art & Technology Team have paired up to hold a whole school scarecrow building competition. After all, it’s that time of the year where we all need help staying safe from the swooping magpies

During the school holidays we would like you to put on your creative thinking hats and build your very own Wantirna scarecrow.

Deadline: Friday 9th October 2021

How: Photograph your creation along with your design team

Email a photo to: rum@wantirnacollege.vic.edu.au with your name, your scarecrow's name if it has one, and anything you would like us to know about it.

Prizes will be awarded to the scarecrow that is:

  • Most Creative
  • Funniest
  • Scariest
  • Family resemblance (include photo of family member)

Prizes: $20 voucher

If you are happy to donate your scarecrow, the winning entries will be put in the gardens at Wantirna College.

You've got to be in it to win it, and remember the reason scarecrows win - they're outstanding in their fields 😊
