Year 9 and 10 Poetry

Creative writing

Please enjoy these Poems that my Creative Writing class wrote about a game they have played. It was inspired by the poem "Life Cycle (for Big Jim Phelan)" by Bruce Dawe.

Year 9 student:

The Final Buzzer

The room is filled with an unbreakable tension

Its 5 against 5 with no times to waist

There is no way they can win everyone is sure of it

They think that all hope is lost until

He takes off with the ball in his possession

The bounding of the ball, the squeaking of his shoes

And the aggressive shouts from the bench are all that he hears

Weather they are hearing him on or not he will never know

As he gets closer to his goal the chock get closer to it

He pushes off and the ball goes flying into the net

Cheers erupt in the stadium that overpower the voice of the buzzer

He had done it, he won the game

Year 10 student:

Draw 4

Uno Championships

Eating my chips

On the edge of my seat

Watching for the cheats

My dodgy hand

I pick up a card

Another Yellow

Reverse

My turn again

Second last card

Draw 4 is down

UNO!

Year 9 student:

no title

I hit the button we chat

I voted him out

He fell on the mat

My character has a big snout

I chased them out

They screamed and shout

I reported and blamed

They went up in flames

I won and was famed winner!

Year 10 student:

no title

The sun began to rise on a pixelated world

Taking away the darkness that once infested the land

Sword in hand I took a deep breath and left the comfort of my dirt hut

I looked upon some sheep trotting along the grass by a lake

Where just hours ago skeletons had taken control

It was hard to imagine a place could be both so terrifying yet beautiful

And yet I forgot about the monsters who still lurk in the shadows of day

A creeper sneaking behind me as I went about my day

Taking one of my infinite final breaths with them.
