Student Leadership

Knox Youth Summit

Eight Wantirna College students attended the Knox Youth Summit online with other secondary schools in Knox, hosted by the Knox Council.

There were presentations from three guest speakers to start the day and to inspire the participants. Charlotte from Headspace, Eva from School Strike 4 Climate and Allison from People and Parks. The two key themes for the day were environment and mental health.

Students then spent time in breakout rooms discussing what is important to them as a youth member of Knox, with students from other schools. The day concluded with each group giving recommendations on these two topic to the council members present, to be implemented in the local area and community.

It was great to see these students giving their ideas and opinions on these topics at the Summit!

The Knox Youth Summit was a great opportunity to have our young voices heard. We heard from guest speakers and got to voice some suggestions that we have regarding mental health and the environment.

I found this summit an amazing and inspiring for the youths of Knox. We learnt many things to help the environment and our mental health from the guest speakers. This summit made me value the environment and mental health even more. Thanks Knox Youth Summit!

In the Knox Youth Summit, we learned and contributed our thoughts about the environment and mental health. We contributed ideas to help the space around us, and the environment we live in. There were lovely people who would listen and elaborate on your thoughts. The Summit was a friendly place, and I would do it again if I had the chance.

We had such a great time, it was really interesting to listen to the other students ideas on topics such as mental health and protecting the environment. I'm looking forward to future experiences like this one!

The Knox Youth Summit was an unforgettable experience. It was very educational and was very nice to find some likeminded people of around my own age, as a lot of the people that I know, do not believe that I know what I am talking about.

Pet Meet and Greet

On Wednesday the 1st of September, a group of student leaders got together after school, and all joined a PET MEET & GREET call with our special pets. In the meeting we introduced our pets, played a couple of games like BINGO and even had some fun chatting and answering interesting questions like what our ideal day would look like. We all agreed that it was a really nice opportunity to connect with some of our peers that we hadn’t seen for a while, being both in and out of lockdown and to just take our minds off the whole remote learning situation. Even though the turnout was a little lower than we expected but we all still had a really great time.
