Year 12 Updates

Onsite Performance Exam Preparation

At this stage we are only permitted to have Year 12 students onsite in subjects from the performing arts to allow students to prepare and get feedback for their performance exams which start early next term.  To be onsite, the Departments of Health and Education require students must be able to produce evidence of a negative COVID-19 test in the previous 24 hours.  We understand the frustration and inconvenience students may be experiencing in relation to this but it is a strategy that is keeping our student community safe.

Year 12 Vaccine Blitz

As you have no doubt heard in the media all final year students (including year 11 students doing a year 12 subject) are being encouraged to take part in the vaccine blitz.  These students can present at any state vaccination centre with their student ID and will be able to have a Pfizer vaccination.  The blitz goes until September 17.  The advice from the Department of Health is that students who have appointment at GPs before the GAT should keep these appoints rather than attend a vaccination centre.

The Department of Health has also advised that students to not need parental consent.  If they are under the age of 18, they are able to give a consent as a mature minor provided that they indicate they understand what they are consenting to.

Holiday Revision Program

These holidays are the time when revision should be ramping up for our year 12 VCE students as they prepare for their exams.  Just a reminder that the Knox Network revision program (which is totally free of charge) is running through the first week of the holidays. All sessions are online and students should have collected their hard copy materials from the school on Wednesday.  Any student who was unable to collect materials should ring the General Office and book a time to collect on Thursday or Friday (before 3pm).

Some teachers will also be running school based revision sessions in the second week.  Students have been advised when these sessions will be.

The GAT

It is becoming clear that a strong performance on the General Assessment Task (GAT) is becoming more important than ever for our Year 12 students.  If a student has to quarantine, or an exam venue is deemed a tier one exposure site, then the GAT scores will be used in the calculation of their derived exam score and will contribute to their study score.

To assist students in preparing we are running a couple of GAT preparation sessions.  One on Thursday 16 September and one on Monday 27 September, both at 10:00am.   We have also provided all year 12 students with two copies of practice papers for them to practice.

Students who wish to get feedback on the writing tasks may send them via email to either Ms Wallis or Ms Ford for assessment.

The answers for all multiple choice questions are available online through the VCAA website, GAT page.

Please note:  the GAT is not compulsory for VCAL students or students who have opted to do an unsecured VCE.

Year 12 Pizza Party

All year 12 students have received a $15 gift voucher for a home delivered pizza so they can join their classmates in a Pizza Party on the last day of school.

Students should check their email for this voucher and be aware that it may have gone through to the junk email.  The vouchers have are valid for 12 months and can only be used online.
