Thank-you

I want to extend a big thank-you to all our students and families for all your hard work this term. Let's see what our kids have been making the last fortnight:

Foundation

In week 8 the Foundation students revisited some papercraft techniques - fringing, coiling and accordion folding. Their task was to combine these techniques an build a 3D paper sculpture on a paper base.

In week 9 the students used the same papercraft techniques to build a sculpture inspired by the glass works of Dale Chihuly. They used a stick or skewer as a base for their artwork and also justified their decision on where to display their finished sculpture.

Year 1/2

In week 8 the students watched a video by Bec Hill who uses paper puppetry to make funny flip charts. They had the opportunity to explore one of these paper puppetry techniques to make a portrait with a moving mouth.

In week 9, the students did some revision on texture and colour and how these elements can change the mood of an artwork. They de-coded a variety of pictures of oceans through discussing textures and colours, then created their own ocean image.

Year 3/4

In week 8, the year 3/4's  explored how to change the expression of a face by slightly altering it's features.  They then worked to construct a "Worry or Wish Box" from a cardboard food packaging box. The box has 2 faces which show 2 different expressions. One side of the box eats worries, and the other side can keep wishes safe.

In week 9, the 3/4s were meant to complete a Notan papercraft task. Unfortunately due to some technical issues, the  video file was not available. I'm working on re-editing the video to be ready for this Wednesday. Instead, the students were given the Foundation activity based on Dale Chihuly's glass sculptures. They used their knowledge of paper craft techniques to create some beautiful paper floral arrangements.

Year 5/6

The 5/6 students have been practicing drawing the human figure almost every week since the start of term. I'm blown away by how far they have come with their drawings. In week 8, they used this knowledge to create a 3D scene from their favourite book. Their scene contained a character and a setting. The background and foreground was off-set using an accordion folded strip of paper to add depth to the piece.

In week 9, they really put their knowledge of drawing humans to the test! Their task was to document each step in their drawing process to teach Mr. G how to draw. I'll be giving Mr. G some of these instructions to follow and we will see what his drawing looks like.

The students chose a character from the "Disco Dancing Championships - 1979" as a starting point for their drawing.
