Amazing Arrays

During Maths this week, our focus is on multiplication. Students are exploring a variety of ways to find the total of a number of equal groups. 

 

In particular we have been looking at arrays (where the objects are organised into equal rows and columns). Using an array to solve a multiplication question helps students to see that three rows of two produces the same total as two rows of three, and facilitates skip-counting as a strategy to find the total. Next week, we will continue looking at arrays in an exploration of how they can help us with division problems.

 

You can support your child's learning this week by exploring the arrays that are in and around your home. Here are some examples:
