JUNIOR SCHOOL NEWS

Mr Steven Quinn

Junior Sub School Manager

During the last remote learning experience, I commended the Year 7 and 8 students for their efforts. They negotiated the challenges of online learning and assessment with great maturity. I heard stories from staff and parents of students being organised, punctual, motivated and even taking over classes to support their peers with technical difficulties that their teacher had trouble managing. These behaviours exemplify our College motto of ‘Strive to Achieve’ and are some of the reasons why I love my job and why we will be able to achieve great learning outcomes in our new environment again.

Regarding our online classrooms, it is our aim to maintain as much of the school's normalities as we can, while working remotely therefore, it is essential for only students and teachers to be present in class. I know it can be quite hard for some parents and carers who may want to take advantage of this new situation to provide support to their students while at home. However, we ask that you let them be the independent learners we are looking to develop, ask for help in class and seek extra support when required outside class hours via email with their teachers. If you do have any questions or concerns please follow the usual processes of emailing or calling the relevant staff members or the school.

Year 9 Subject Selections for 2021

Our regular Course Counselling preparation and interview sessions have been replaced with online subject selections this week. Information has been shared  with all current Year 8 and 9 students via Google Classroom. Students should have selected their 2021 subjects by the end of this week. We encourage parent/carers to take the time to discuss your child’s selections. If you are having any issues making these selections please contact the College as soon as possible.

Finally, please remember to stay active and look after your physical and mental health while at home. We cannot achieve our best academically if we do not manage our new lock-down lifestyle with our health in mind. Please visit the Student Wellbeing Page in this newsletter.

Stay safe and look after each other.
