On Wednesday 7th October 132 Bairnsdale Secondary College VCE students attended the General Achievement Test, familiarly called the GAT which was held on campus.
The GAT is a 3 and 1/4 hour test of communication, critical thinking and problem solving skills, set externally by VCAA. This is an important assessment for VCE students, because GAT results contribute to the statistical moderation of all school based assessment results. We were very proud of the efforts of our students in their GAT preparation during remote learning, for what is a challenging task. The College's team of supervisors commented that they were extremely impressed by our students' behaviour and effort in trying to achieve their best.
All Year 12 VCE students have an opportunity to attend a dedicated VCE revision program for their study area. Elevate and ConnectED, a reputable VCE revision provider, have joined forces this year and our College has secured their services to support VCE revision programs as our students prepare for exams.
Year 12 VCE students also have access to a new DET platform hosting the 2020 Rural Revision Program. The platform provides subject specific study material and a wide range of resources to support exam revision. The platform is continually revised with updated information and resources. Initial reports from BSC students who have accessed the program are very positive. Please use the link below to investigate the options.

Cooking is a big part of the VCAL program. Ms Blackley’s Kitchen Garden group cook once a week using produce from the VCAL vegetable garden and eggs from our chickens.
VCAL students took part in a Job Camp held at school during Term 2. They attended courses over four days, gaining qualifications in First Aid, Barista Coffee Making and Café Serving, Food Safety and Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA).
Boris Bryant, Senior VCAL student, completed this fantastic piece of writing during remote learning about the impacts, his personal experience and understandings of the bushfires early in 2020.
Ethan Hubbard, Senior VCAL student, has produced a wonderful reflective piece of writing, explaining the history of the Clontarf Program, his experiences and how the program has supported him over his senior secondary education at BSC.
Some VCAL students were still able to complete their Structured Workplace Learning during remote learning. Riley Reddick, who is studying VET Automotive, got his hands dirty at The Big Garage.
Samara McDonald’s VCAL project was to create a beautiful garden feature with pond, rocks and plants to be positioned near the library entrance. She designed, planned built and planted it out it herself.
Senior students created comfortable work spaces for themselves during remote learning!
