ACC Sport & House News

House Cross Country Challenge

To keep us all physically active during the restricted time the sports department are setting a challenge to all Mazenod students to see which house has the most dedication, passion, enthusiasm and motivation to score a point for each kilometre they run!

All the information is on the sports tile on MazCom. Students can log their run using a GPS watch or phone and load the info onto the link which can be easily done.

The points will accumulate over the 6 weeks and we will then announce year level winners and overall winners with prises when students return. The best runner at each level will have a chance to win a brand new pair of ASIC runners. So don’t sit on the couch, get your running gear on and go for a run.

House Sport

As we continue into a 5-week stint of remote learning I remind students they can find a number of activities to do for health and fitness under the sports tile on MazCom. There are a number of challenges that require no equipment and easy and fun to complete. Please remember the house cross country challenge mentioned at the start of this information. A number of year levels will be using allotted sport time to complete important tasks such as subject selections for 2021. Students have been or will be notified when these sessions are taking place.

Physical Education Classes

A reminder that all PE classes will continue as normal as per time table. Students will have work and activities to complete as set by their teacher on their class page. For most classes, it will involve a physical challenge which should be completed.

We would also like to thank F45 Mulgrave who have been of great assistance to our students and staff providing great workouts online during our PE times for junior classes. Students are aware of their times to join in.

Oblate Cricket

As most would have expected, Mazenod will not be sending a team to Queensland for the event in December this year. It was obviously a very hard decision to make with the long history of the tournament, but given the uncertain times and situation, it was felt better for us to withdraw now so Iona can make arrangements should they wish to hold the tournament in some capacity. With border restrictions, financial uncertainty, high levels of stress and anxiety plus Year 12 exam finishing in December it was considered that too many factors would make our involvement hard to prepare and manage. This will come with great disappointment to our Year 11 students who would have played in their last tournament.

In 2021 the Carnival is due to be held in Perth. The three Oblate Colleges will meet to discuss how this will look going forward.

A decision on the Volleyball Nationals in Queensland will be held soon as to whether the tournament will go ahead and if it does whether we will send any teams for 2020.

ACC Challenges

As per lockdown one, the ACC has put together a number of new challenges for students across the 11 ACC Colleges to participate in. They are great activities that promote health, both physical and mental. They can be accessed at the ACC website on www.accmelb.com.au where students can register to run around Australia or be involved in some sports trivia as well as be involved in some positive mindset challenges. You can get access to some of these by using the following links:
