Student Special Mentions

VCAA PESA Competition

On Friday Year 11 student Mateo Acosta Fernandez will represent Mazenod in the state final of the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority Plain English Speaking Award. The VCAA Plain English Speaking Award (PESA) is a public-speaking competition for students aged 15-18 years.

It provides an excellent opportunity for students to build self-confidence and extend their skills in oral communication, speech writing and research. Mateo will compete in the final after recently winning his semi-final with a speech on the topic of “Why video games should be classified as an art form”.

In the final Mateo, he will give a speech on the same topic, but need to extend his speech to a total of eight minutes from six. The contestants will also have to give an impromptu speech on a given topic for four minutes. Mateo has been working closely with Ms Caird on his public speaking skills, presentation and delivery and we wish him well.

Good luck Mateo!
