Cross Country

What an event!! Firstly it was postponed due to COVID 19, rescheduled for the end of Term 2, adjusted because of COVID-19 but finally, we had The Riverina Anglican College 2020 Cross Country. And it did not disappoint. The clouds parted just towards the end of lunch which allowed the sunshine to stream onto the College campus. This was much needed as the temperature was only 11 degrees. Students were amazing in their attitude towards the event and a positive atmosphere filled the College. Congratulations to Browning House who won the overall event. Results were as follows:

Return to CWWHSSA Representative Sport in Term 3

The CWWHSSA Sports Coordinators and Principals from the seven secondary Independent, Catholic and Public Schools in Wagga Wagga met late in Term 2 to discuss the safe return to Representative Sport in Term 3. The following decisions were made during this meeting:

The four trophy sports that were missed (during the COVID 19 isolation period) during Term 1 and 2 will be played in 2020 using a condensed competition format during the following weeks in Term 3:

  • Preston Butcher Open Girls Touch Football - Term 3: Weeks 4,5
  • Hardy Shield Open Boys Rugby League - Term 3: Weeks 4,5,6
  • Tracey Gunsen Open Girls Netball - Term 3: Weeks 6,7
  • Carroll Cup Open Boys AFL - Term 3: Weeks 7,8,9

The decision was unanimous, with each school agreeing that it was most important for the current Year 12 cohort to be provided the opportunity to play these competitions during their final year at school. For some, it may become one of their fondest memories to come out of a challenging 2020. The competitions will be played in strict accordance with COVID-19 safe play protocols during the time of the specific competition dates. At this stage, there will be no spectators, including parents, allowed to attend the sporting grounds (with the exception of dropping off and picking up players). Currently, only the players, coaching staff and officials will be able to attend the events. You will be informed ASAP if these restrictions ease.

Open Boys Soccer

On a wet Monday evening at Rawlings Park, The Riverina Anglican College team took to the field in the CWWHS’s competition.  There was a list of Covid19 requirements that needed to be adhered to allow the competition to take place.  In our first game the team were held to a nil-all draw with Wagga Wagga Christian College.  Both teams had opportunities to score goals, but the keepers at both ends were able to keep clean sheets.  Game two was against Mount Austin High School.  Our team started to gel and became the dominant team.  Emerson McLaren and Liam Burns scored in the first half, with Connor Summerhayes adding another in the second half to ensure The Riverina Anglican College's 3 goals to 1 victory.  In game three Kildare Catholic College proved too strong for our team, with a 5 goals to nil victory.  Our team showed plenty of endeavour and never shied away from the challenge throughout the match.  Our mud-covered, drenched team played with great spirit and sportsmanship: as did our opposition.

Better players on the evening were Darcy Barber, Liam Burns, Emerson McLaren, Harry Wilkinson and Cayleb Harris.  We were unable to progress any further in this year’s competition.  We will follow the girls team with interest.
