Sports Update

Armidale Diocesan Cricket Trials

Yesterday Emily and Tom Pietsch, Thomas McHarg, Patrick Wright and Harrison Bailey participated in the Armidale Diocesan Cricket Trials in Tamworth. From all accounts they performed very well. Congratulations to Emily Pietsch for her selection in the Girls’ Diocesan team and a special mention to Harrison Bailey for being selected in the ‘possibles and probables’ (being shortlisted from 60 boys down to 20). Emily will now participate in the Polding trials at Lismore on 20th August. Thank you to Miss McMeniman for being the Girls’ Team Manager for the Diocesan Team. 

Athletics Carnival

Weather and COVID-19 permitting, our annual Athletics Carnival will be going ahead this Friday 23rd July 2021. As noted in last week’s newsletter, the carnival will occur in a slightly different capacity in order to comply with COVID-19 guidelines. Unfortunately, this means that SPECTATORS ARE NOT PERMITTED to attend. ‘Essential Adults/Helpers’ will receive a note today with further details of their role for the day. I understand that this may be disappointing for those who were planning on spectating; however, the most important thing to remember here is that the children are actually getting the opportunity to compete. Last year many students, in many sports, were deprived of this opportunity thanks to COVID-19. I am pleased that we can continue to provide these opportunities for the students but it does come with new guidelines that we must adhere to. 

General Athletics Carnival reminders:

  • Students may wear a shirt for their House ie yellow- MacKillop; blue- Fitzroy;  red- Penola. School sport shorts/skirts and socks must be worn.
  • Students arrive at school at the normal time.
  • Bring a safety pin for your ribbons.
  • It is a school day, students are expected to attend.
  • Bring suitable clothing, hats, sunscreen, blankets and jackets!
  • Make sure everything you bring is marked clearly with your name.
  • No zinc, hairspray or markings on body allowed.
  • Bring enough food and water to last the day.

In the event of the carnival being postponed, notification will be sent out via the Compass app and also on facebook. The backup date is Monday 26th July.
