Senior School Learning

Year 3 and 4

The 3/4’s have been focusing on Division in their Numeracy hour. They have been creating their own Division Houses using questions relating to themselves. All houses are individual and unique to each student! Here are some examples of student’s who have begun their houses finding out how many doors, windows and apple trees are in their picture! See if you can figure out the equations!

Year 5 and 6

Literacy

We have enjoyed delving deeper into our unit on "Perspectives that have Shaped Australia’s History- The First Settlement". Students have enjoyed expanding their vocabulary and have been introduced to words such as buckshot, chamberpot, weevils, tussocks, samphire and scurvy. They are very grateful to be living in today’s society where they do not have to use a chamberpot or worry about breaking their teeth on the buckshot whilst eating their roast chicken!

Students have focused on turning fragments into sentences, with a focus on the different types of sentences. They were able to use the same fragment (a small part of a sentence) and highlight how the meaning of this fragment can change depending on the type of sentence it is written in. Ask your child what an imperative, interrogative, declarative and exclamatory sentence are!

Upon watching episodes of My Place and reading our book “Nanberry, Black Brother White”, we have been able to look at the First Settlement through the eyes of many different people. Students have been able to describe how the First Settlement is viewed differently depending on who is telling the story. We look forward to creating our own picture story books over the next couple of weeks, which will be told from the perspective of someone they choose, whether it be a convict child, Captain Arthur Phillip or our First Nation’s People.
