Junior School Learning

News from Foundation
Literacy
The Foundation students have been learning about animals through reading and writing. We have been learning about vertebrates and how there are 5 different types of vertebrates (fish, reptiles, mammals, birds and amphibians). In reading, students have been learning how to gather information about an animals habitat, classification, diet and appearance. They then use the information they have gathered to write an information report on the animal.
Numeracy
The Foundation students have now spent a few weeks on addition and it is time for us to explore subtraction. This week we have been learning to identify a bigger number so that we can take the smaller number away.
News from Year 1 and 2
Congratulations to 1/2 students on the way you have all settled back into our school routines. We have had a focus this week on revising school behaviour and workbook expectations and it has been pleasing to see some progress already in these areas. Students have worked hard on the 1/2 whole group goal of receiving 25 signatures (one signature for each demonstration of excellent work or behaviour) on a whiteboard to receive a special reward on Friday!
In reading, students have been working on decoding words using their knowledge of graphemes and phonemes to help them decode words.
In writing we have been learning how to write neatly and form our letters correctly.
In maths we have been learning how to read analogue and digital time.
Keep up the great work 1/2!
