St Columba’s Sports Day

Our annual Prep - Year 6 Sports Day is on Tuesday 27th July. The carnival will runfrom 9.45 am – 1.30 pm at Duncan Mackinnon Reserve. 

The students will participate in a variety of Athletic events to earn points for their House: Phillip, Ormond or Elster. The Year 6 leaders will be having team practices leading up to the day where they will practise their team chants and cheering. 

We need parent helpers on the day for various jobs so if you are able to help during the day can you please let Sharelle know –sbraithwaite@scelwood.catholic.edu.au.

Dear Parents and Friends, 

On behalf of Vinnies I would like to thank you for your support.  Both my colleague Keith and I were gobsmacked when we saw what you had donated.  It will be much appreciated by the people in our community who are in need of support.  

This is the story of “Peter”.  “ He is in his 50’s, has had occasional employment, but is currently out of work and is on Jobseeker.  He has moved out of a boarding house and has finally been allocated social housing. But he is struggling to set himself up in his new home - he has a mattress and some clothing, but few of the essentials for daily life - for example, cookware, linen, a table and chair.“ 

To be able to give Peter a hand-up is what Vinnies is all about.  Be that by the provision of Vinnies Op shop and supermarket vouchers, furniture or support to pay bills or to referral to other agencies within the community. 

So, for us to be able to greet Peter with a smile and a bag of groceries is a measure of the humanity that underpins the work of Vinnies.
