Noongar Boodja Place Names

As part of our NAIDOC Week celebrations the Year Seven students took part in a Q&A session with Uncle Lester Coyne and viewed the documentary film Noongar Boodja Place Names.  Produced by Community Arts WA, this film explores the process of dual naming of significant sites in and around Albany such as Kinjarling (Albany), Barmup (Strawberry Hill Farm) and Kardarup (Mt Melville).  Starring local Noongar elders and emerging leaders the film has become an integral part of our Year Seven program and Uncle Lester introduced the film and took questions afterwards.  The most interest was shown by students in Uncle Lester's childhood in Albany.   Thank you to Uncle Lester for so generously sharing his time and knowledge with us.

Mario Kart

The Middle School Mario Kart Tournament Grand Final proved a great way to cap off a busy Term Two in Middle School. The Gym was alive with an electric atmosphere as a term long journey came down to this 4-race decider. Rising to the top from a pool of 28 racers Clyde, Isaac, Nicco and Travis looked at home on the big stage and made it a close race to the very end. The crowd’s investment was huge, as shown in the photos. Congratulations to the prize winners and everyone who participated. It was high stakes, high drama, and a whole lot of fun!
