Year Six

YEAR 6 EXHIBITION

In term 2 we started our new unit of inquiry; How the World Works. We investigated the Central Idea – INNOVATION AND TECHNOLOGY IMPACTS SOCIETY AND THE ENVIRNONMENT, and looked into what technology actually is. We discussed a range of different types of technology, such as medical, transport, sport etc and then in groups we focussed on a specific area of interest. We looked at the strengths, weaknesses and threats and opportunities for innovation. We came up with ideas that could improve a certain area of technology to make something easier or to solve a problem.

We started our design and construction on the first day of term 3… some of us had a few hiccups but we all had a lot of fun in the process. Quite a few interesting and weird things happened in the Year 6 work space such as ‘enthusiastic’ discussion and decision making, mishaps with creating models and digital work being misplaced… but all of the presentations and models turned out well in the end.

Unfortunately, isolation struck and remote learning wasn’t the best way to create a group model, but the good thing was that we did end up going back to school after 10 days of lockdown and were excited to get back to finalise presentations and finish off works of art.

Our oral presentations were rescheduled (3rd time lucky) to start in Week 4. A lot of people had amazing and interesting projects. We all worked hard on the projects and it definitely paid off. Some people weren’t as confident as others but we should all be proud of the fact that we stood up and presented our projects to the whole Year 6 cohort and teachers. We even had some special guests (Mrs Duffy, Mrs Taylor and Mrs Murnane) who were lucky enough to see some of our presentations!
